'dark altar' sounds like a fluffy term to me, but i suppose they mean an altar with items intended for the 'dark arts' but magick is neutral and it the casters intent, therefore a 'dark altar' could be made by someone who practices what people would see as 'black magick'. i wouldn't purchase it, i'm sure most of the items are things you could easily get [black cloth, black candles, maybe a red pentagram or something else 'sinister' looking]
an altar [dark or not] is a sacred table to hold your stuff while preforming a ritual, ceremony, or spell. various sabbats have specific colours for each one, and people decorate their altar with cloths and items of the season, but really, decorate it as you see fit. if you want to use a black cloth, use it. many people use a white and a black [or dark purple] candle to represent the Lord and Lady but you could use any colour you feel represents your deity best [my friend uses beeswax, i use two green ones] your tools will all be the same [athame, wand, chalice, bell] and when you receive them you should cleanse and bless them so they're connected to you, so really it doesn't matter if you buy a kit, or buy each piece from various sources.
THank you, Nekoshema. Looking at the item's description and pictures though, it just looks like a nomral pocket sized altar. I did message the shop owneer though, asking what makes it "dark".
Nekoshema seems to be right. I searched Etsy for "dark alter kit," and came up with two viable possibilities, both described as altars to Hecate. They both have common types pf altar items, at least in concept, such as a representation of the goddess, candles, wands, altar cloth (dark purple i both cases), etc. One has what looks like a chicken bone, a black feather and a small bird skull (possibly fake -- and remember, the feathers and bones of many species of birds in the United States are illegal to collect and possess without meeting certain requirements so be sure what it is, if that matters to you).
They're both mostly made of black implements.
Pocket and portable altars are interesting to me, in many ways.
I would recommend making your own, but absolutely using others you find as inspiration. It would be a lot of fun. Of course, if you find one that resonates well with you, by all means! It's totally up to you.
