I agree with you, but I am also stating that how one person (or in this case, a group of people) interprets a spiritual experience is not necessarily how another group of people do.

My point merely was multiple paths will work with the same beings, they may just interpret it differently because we are living in the 21st century, and educated. The common people back then had no choice but to take the priests' word for it.

As such, angels may originate with Abrahamic religions, but they are most certainly not exclusive to it. It is a matter of how beings are interpreted by an individual, or group of individuals.

Fact is, just like Catholocism adopted a myriad of pagan traditions and changed them, other paths do the same. At the core they are all the same thing, just a different interpretation.

My point was, there are many different paths which work with angels, and my path is based upon individual experience rather than listening to what another person says.

Yes, there are many interpretations of angels. But the common idea of the angels, Archangels, such as Gabriel,Michael, and such, was conceived by Constantine and the early bishops at Nicea. It wasn't so much that Catholicism took from Pagan beliefs as that it was a "blending" of Roman beliefs with Christian. For instance, the 25th of December as the birthday of Jesus that in fact it was the birthday of the Roman God Mithras. And other "stolen" beliefs came later.
Let us agree that beliefs are many and varied, and leave it at that!

Um wow. Thanks for all the answers guys! It's just to bad I don't really know what anyone is saying. XD I got the gist of it though. So no guardian angels then. Oookay. No spirit watching over any individual person either? I thought there was.

Angels are pretty much mentioned in Torah and are called "malach" or mal'kh,which roughly translates in English as messengers. The word angel comes from Latin angelicus, which also translates as messenger. In Greek the word is angelos, and my theory is that it was borrowed from Greek to Latin, and that is how it came in wider use.In a nut shell they are called messengers because they have no free will and bring messages(news) between the spiritual plane and physical one.The reason why I am mentioning the etymology of the word is because in ancient times those teaching could be only told in three languages -Hebrew(not sure new or old Hebrew),Latin and Greek(old Greek).I do not include Aramaic, because according to my mentor it is very similar language to old Hebrew. Thus, when The Bible was translated to other European languages, they had to implement those words(angelos, angelus, angel),by adjusting it to their pronunciation and way of writing, to stay true to the original idea.Although, the notion of angels could be traced back even to Zoroastrianism, where they perform the very same role of messengers.

In Jewish tradition there is not notion of guardian angel, however some sages believed that during the prayer the person that recites it creates a messenger (angel) that serves as his/her shield and protection and at same time testifies on the behalf of the person that sought its Creator. Therefore,it is safe to conclude that this entity can be seen as your personal angel guardian.

Additionally, according to Jewish mysticism (Kabbalah) there are 72 Kabbalah angels guardians (angeli custodi) and one of them is assigned to each person according to their date of birth. Moreover, according to this believe you can contact this personal angel at any time, while the rest have to contact it and seek its help during limited window of time. Here is the official version of Kabbalah center's teaching as mentioned on their website:

"According to Kabbalah, your Guardian Angel escorted your soul into this world at birth and travels at your side until your death." - See more at: http://livingwisdom.kabbalah.com/angels#sthash.MEh2bwSX.dpuf

Furthermore,Angel guardians exist in Orthodox Christianity under the patronage of the Greek Orthodox Church (one of the branches of Christianity that has churches present in Jerusalem). We call them Angeli Hraniteli.

I have to disagree with this, Brysing. Christianity is the name given to a faith or a religion that has developed based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, Catholicism one of the different sects that have developed over time. You can say all Catholics are Christian, but you cannot say all Christians are Catholic. As for they being Guardian Spirits, I never did state that in these religions they were considered Angels but rather that they held deities that were similar or equivalent to that of Angels.

Oh,dear! How wrong can you be. Catholicism a "sect" developed over time. Really? The Catholic Church started with the first Pope,Peter! It started with the actual followers of Jesus! It is all the other "branches" of Christianity that "developed over time".

I think you are not understanding what I am replying, Brysing. I will repeat, Christianity is a term given to religions and paths based on the teachings of Jesus Christ and so on. Although Catholicism is the earliest of these, it still falls under the umbrella term of Christianity.

MadamChleo, of course you are right. Catholicism is Christianity.Just as many titles claim Christianity. But we were discussing angels. So, yes, there are Baptists, and Mormons, and Jehoveh's Witnesses, and countless others of "Christian" faith.
But there is no "Christianity" in Catholicism; it is,and has been almost from the beginning,The Roman Catholic Church.

Your first comment was uncalled for, Brysing. As towards your second, you are simply repeating what I have previously stated, as you said "Catholicism is Christianity". I was referring to a label that is given to those religions that have the similar faith, that being in God and Jesus Christ such as the Catholic Church. As towards your statement that there is no Christianity in Catholicism, how can there not be? I would like to know your point of view on this matter, as Christianity is the belief system based on the teachings of Jesus, is this belief system also not in Catholicism? The reason the label of Christianity is made into an umbrella term for all those religions with the similar faith, is simply as said a label given to categorize them. Catholicism is a religion on its own, with its own tradition and beliefs, I never denied this or mixed it with any other path of Christianity. I simply stated that it falls under the term of Christianity, that being which is a term used to describe religions of the similar faith. Yes, the topic was Angels and it is preferable if it remains that way, it is best not continue with the discussion of religion on a thread who's topic is "Guardian Angels".
