Meditation advice?

Let's just say meditation isn't my strong point. I find that it's easier to do so in rain, but of course, I can't rely on that to help all the time. I do listen to relaxing music sometimes, but the problem with that is it seems easier to meditate outside than inside. I have headphones, but then that blocks out nature's natural sounds...the whole point of being outside. I have no other portable music player.
I'm not allowed to light candles and have no incense. I usually just end up sitting in a plastic chair on my porch and almost falling asleep instead of actually meditating.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've never lit up candles or incense to meditate, unless I was trying to exercise telekinesis on those things, then at least I'd keep an eye on them. Otherwise, I think they're a fire hazard and an asphyxiation hazard.

Sitting on a plastic chair on your porch sounds fine. Practice bringing your attention to the present moment, noticing the nature sounds, appreciating them, but not allowing your mind to stray too far...notice any chatter in your mind, rather than immerse yourself in them or even try to silence them because trying not to think is still a thought...and that should help you notice when you begin to fall asleep, and why.

I had this problem too, I used to drink herbs, use binaural beats, or just music because I was always tired. But I started with breathing exercises (including the fact there is many topics about to improve meditation in the forum), so, this helped me to do my exercises outside, and the idea is being able to do anywhere, in the "chaos" of the street, or in the bus, whatever, etc.

You need to focus and keep doing this everyday, and it will be faster and more faster. I would recommend you to do whithout the headphones. If still complicated, I would use some tea like chamomile but not often.

That's a good point!

I mentioned that because I work under pressure and constant requests for quick solution by different departments, so, I would get bad energy and be really stressed in my entire day. Meditating and doing "other stuff", helped me to keep calm and able to find quick solutions totally relaxed and with my mind "open" to the reality.

I would just like to add that I am starting to get to the point now where I can meditate anywhere, particularly at school, where I am most of the day during the week and constantly surrounded by distraction. For your issue, I recommend using a few drops of Orange, Lavender, or frankincense for grounding and relaxation. Imagine yourself in the most beautiful place in the world and focus on breathing exercises. One I have found most helpful for me is tipping your head forward, inhaling through your nose, then pausing, and exhaling through your mouth. Now, tilt your head all the way back and repeat the steps above. While doing this, be aware of everything: your body, how you breath, etc. Do it as many times as you feel necessary.
Just remember that everyone is different, so don't become discouraged if you don't find the perfect solution in a day; it took me a long time before I found my best method and began working on that. There are many other forums and articles on this site that can help. Also, if it helps, try starting with only five minutes a day; it has proven for me that short sessions each day are more beneficial that long, thirty minutes every week. If you have any other questions, don't be afraid to ask. Good luck and blessed be!

- Clairy.

Orange and lavender sound okay to do that with, but is frankincense equally safe?

I guess I wouldn't recommend all three of them at once. Frankincense is still okay, but if you don't have a candle to put it around then don't do it. I guess I should have been more clear on that.

Finding the right scent for you might help. Using it over and over for the purpose of meditation might help, as you can carry a vial with you, and use as needed. There are potion bottle necklaces you can wear, and use as you need to. One drop just to get the scent, then close eyes and meditate. Hope this helps. I might try this myself, as it is true, trying to meditate in the busy of the day can be hard. BB

The best advice I ever heard when I was younger was from an old man who I would consider truly enlightened, he knew ALOT about everything but was the humbliest person ever. Anyways his advice was simple and to the point. He told me as with meditation and astral projection that the key is not to try, you let it happen. When you spend all your energy focusing on it you tend to overthink it. You can also try standing outside barefoot beforehand to release any negative energies. Hope this helps.
