I have difficulty viewing it as an element. Darkness itself does not give light its structure, thought he contrast certainly helps give one an appreciation of light. Light, or rather the absence of light, gives birth to darkness. Light gives birth to all things, really, as without it - the massive explosions at the heart of creation, from the formation of solar systems to the Big Bang - nothing could form. Without light, there is simply nothing. And so there we have darkness.

Do we then call the absence of existence an element? Or simply a vacuum looking to be filled? I do not see how it pushes things forward. I do not see how it has anything to do with death, demons, or anything of this nature. Darkness simply is simply empty. *shrug*

In more esoteric points of view, we might examine this nothingness as an aspect of lower spirits and entities, incapable of feeling higher emotion or formulating deeper though, and in turn generally feed on the lower emotions, negativity, and attempt in jealousy and anger to mimic or feel that which might be greater. But still, I find little to learn from this beyond an appreciation for that which we are given in light, and a sorrow for those who know its lack.

Do you mean dark matter? The Dark Path? Darkness as in the sleeping realm? There are many aspects to darkness aside from the fantasy aspect, the gothic sub culture or ' evil '. There is the peace & tranquility of darkness. There is the abscence of everything Darkness. Darkness as an element can be Dark Matter. What exactly are you looking for where Darkness is concerned?

Darkness has never been considered a element, but I do get where you are coming from

I say I'm afraid of the dark, but really I just mean I'm afraid of the things I cannot see when it's dark(ie-falling down, being grabbed, knocking things over, etc). Without darkness, the stars cannot shine. Darkness does not equate to evil, just as light does not always bring good. Now while I did not make up this two sentences, I believe them. Without dark, there would be no light, for we would not know what light is. Darkness is beautiful and a necessity if you want there to be light. I actually hate how people use darkness to represent evil and light to represent good. But you can't change symbolisms like that. Though, of course, I do have an idea for a book where the symbolisms and ideas for dark and light are switched. I like to point out to people through my works that not everything is as it seems or what you think.
