Okay some vary valid points.

I wonder how much of this has been propagated by the media, because they see my religion as some made up hooey of course. I mean its always a Wolf or a Raven in Hollywood; never a little white church mouse. As Pagans, Wiccans or fill in the blank we seem to fall for it.
For a long time my spirit guide and indeed my life guide was an old tree. Thats it it was just an old ass tree. it didnt talk to me or walk with me; I would just see the tree and know i was on the right path it would just pop up and be in my meditation.

I don't blame anyone Im not trying to be mean or say they are wrong to have a Wolf or a Raven maybe they are correct. but maybe they are wrong. Maybe they need guidance. Sometimes in magic things are not what they seem. it's like speaking in tongues sometimes its just gibberish.

I have a wolf as a guide, but she acts as a secondary guide to me, and is not my main guide, nor is she very loud. She would be easily described as an Omega wolf, and no matter what anyone has said to me about spirit guides not having "places" in packs, she told me she was an Omega when I met her. Her actions are that of an Omega, and she works with me in that regard.

My main guide is a white lion that is more solar than he is truly white. When I first met him, I was not expecting a lion, but rather a crocodile or a mouse. Him showing up was something of a great shock to me, but he has never steered me wrong.

Another guide that I have is my former servitor who appears as a hawk. He was intended to be highly destructive, and he has become a peaceful and lovely individual on his own or in conjunction with me. He was not originally a hawk, but was half human, half bird with razor sharp steel feathers. I consider his being a hawk his personal choice.

I also have an archetypical oak that shows up from time to time, to teach me about grounding and my connection with the rest of the universe.

I think that people are just dense. A lot of people don't know what they are talking about when they talk about "spirit animals" and stuff. I had to find my true name before I knew what my spirit animal is. But I know it's my spirit animal because They have guided me many times when I need help, and even though they don't even make bearable noise I know what they are thinking an I feel it when they get hurt or killed if I'm around.

I believe spirit animals change over various times or needs in your life. There is a difference between a spiritual animal and a spiritual guide. Many people tend to fall in the trap (cliche) that Hollywood develops because they want to feel that same potentency of power. There is nothing wrong with the wolf or raven, its just about the individual who really knows if that is truely their guide.

Personally, I find that a guide only appears constantly or symbolically at those moments where there is a lesson to learn. Most of the time they can go consciously unnoticed, but subconsciously they are helping you process that lesson. Spirit Animals come to teach you that which you need to learn, in order to know how meet the challenges.

Spiritual guides on the other hand, guide you through the trials of your life and to help you to understand the lessons that these experiences are there to teach you. Spirit guides can be pretty much anything (people, objects, archtypes, animals that have crossed over, nature). Spirit guides can be there your whole life or change as well based on the lesson.

Mine was a female sparrow, it was the only thing that would talk to me. Now I also have a hawk, who is a shapeshifter.

As part of a Native American tribe my spirit name is "White Cloud" I won't explain what it means and why because that is personal, but I expected to be some kind of bear when the elder was going to give me my name because most of the tribe thought I was going to be a bear. I think self discovery is the hardest magick to perform because it requires you to be objective and it is quite possible that most people acquire their spirit animal in part of their own desires for themselves than self actualization. That doesn't mean that self desire can't become self actualization so there is no harm in choosing a spirit animal to guide them that fits their desires in helping them actualize who they want to be. So, it's all good.

I have often wondered how people know for a FACT what their spirit animal is. All of my life dragonflies have always been around me and many times they would land right on me. I figure that's my spirit animal but I don't know for sure. In my journey over thge years I have come up with my own belief system regarding "spirit animals" which is that ALL animals can be your spirit guide at certain points if you can recognize the signs. For instance if you dream of a wolf it means such and such and if you see dragonflys around it is telling you to another thing. Depending on the animal association or correspondence there is a different point you are being told. I guess you could have a sprit guide or guides as well along with the signs from the others but from my experience you have countless animal guides through life if you can open your eyes and notice them.

Great topic, good thread starter. Thank you.

Mikoda. I don't think I'm possessed. My name has no revelence to who I am. But if you want an explibation behind it, I consider my depression as being "possessed". I also take on emotions therefor you could say I am "possessed by them". And to say that I'm not fully developed is true, I haven't had the chance to practice much magick because I don't live in an environment that supports it. But that dosnt mean I'm not spiritually developed and I am not knowledgeable. I have had my own experince in a way that you might not be able to comprehend or you might diss miss as nothing. I cannot say cause I don't know you. I don't want continues conflict but I'm more knowledgeable then one would think I could be. So please don't discard my opinion as nonsence
