Angel

Tears fall like rain as you see him walk away
The knowledge of your parting only made it worse
Although you try to contain your emotions it feels
Like a fantasy crushed under the wing of a monster,
He walks away

He turns toward you one last time
The clear day seems to be obscured by a large cloud of sadness,
Your sadness overwhelming you
Forcing your heart to ache like a knife is stabbing into it
You remember

Just the other day feels like forever ago
The memory of his kiss
His warm embrace, the scent of him on your skin lingers
Hovering over you taunting your sorrows
You smile

The mere reality wipes the smile away
The ghosts of yesterday’s joy seem to catch your breath
Pushing on your insides, causing you to want to keel over and cry
A bead of water lands on your hair
The clouds roll in

He walks toward you
Your stomach seems to jump with surprise
He whispers in your ear
The words ‘I will return’ are breathtaking
He pulls you in

With the love of a million couples
He takes you in his arms
Holding you tighter, stealing your breath from you
A kiss which deepens your affections and burns through your heart
You let him go

Your lips tingle and your fingers are numb
Your tears freeze on your face and nothing other than him seems to move,
Farther and farther away, but you have accepted it
You look up at the sky and the clouds seem to disappear and a bright ray of sunshine,
Follows your love, your angel
