I'm slightly curious about the
'Three Fold Law'. I have no religioun yet believe in witchcraft and energy manipulation. So, I'm just pondering whether the law only applies to those that bieleve it; since witchcraft itself is a beileif and the more one bieleves then usually the stronger there magicks are. Personally, I don't bieleve in karma. I've seen WAY to many people that should have been punished or had some type of conisequence yet live in luxury and live to a ripe healthy age and are completely happy... Yes, I suppose you could say that they'll meet theres in the end but to me that's not enough to prove the existience of karma. Also, I'm questioning whether there's an existence of, say a coven or witches that take power into there own hands when dealing with rouge practioners. So, say if the the 'Power of 3' doesn't truely exist and a witch using curses and spells to harm the innocent or they just reach very high in power and like I said use it with negativity. Could a group / coven truely take away that practioners power or even use dangerous measures to stop the witch? Silly, possible; but I've seen so many shows and movies with this idea that I'm just asking out of curiousity of what other true practioners or at least studyiers of the occult and witchcraft would say. I know that it's most likely just the media trying to spice up the craft just like they did with 'black and white magic' thing and that it might be possible that elders just told newbies the 'Three fold law' to scare them from doing harm since that would be against there bielefs and it just became tradition over time. I mean no disrespect over any ones bieleifs so don't disrespect mine with immature post. I just want everyones opinion on both the 'Three Fold Law' and the idea of covens taking jugdment of a higher power upon themselves and if so what damage or help could they truly do? (Soooooo many typos! So sorry for that!)
You must have heard newton's law-"every reaction has an opposite reaction.Hence what you pass over will surely come to you in what way you never know.I don't know surely that it will come back in three times more powerfull means, but it may surely come,if you look at Isaac Newton's law.Anyways, frankly speaking,i too have seen people doing evil things, and live a life of luxury, and not got their lesson for doing wrong.I will also use black magick like curses, revenge etc.only when smebody had harmed me.In that case,i don't believe that will apply to three fold law,as he has done wrong,so he will be paying for his evil work through means of my curse.(Just want to make you wright, bielieve is not the spelling, its believe!sorry if you felt bad by my correction.)
merry meet again -men have laws but to them GODS ways don't belong so we appeal to a higher power call it divine justice this means that no bad deed goes unpunished no good goes unrewarded the powers that be see to that its also the law of compensation i'll post all the laws later in an article the law of divine order is in effect for everyone no one is above it you can call it karma or the three fold law a curse etc but naughty little cildren get punished for bad behavior and rewarded for good behavior we all go through hell so to speak because mother and father GOD reward and punish their children us i love telling wiccans that the 3fold law is a curse cause they use it as one its ridiculous the law of the strega(witches) says nothing can be gained less somethings given in return why we offer offerings to the powers that be and do good for each other as offerings cause we reap what we sow from experience GOD and them hate bad behavior they punish me for it profanity to but its like for like two wrongs dont make a right we must be good to get good evil allowed to exist harms everyone if its for the greater good you have no choice but to punish the child so i say to you (TU FUI EGO ERIS -i was you you will be me) see how they like it
I see where your going here.. I think it's just a matter of what you believe. Since you don't believe in karma, you might not see it clearly, as some who does. I believe, that something will come back, that maybe it might not be 3x as worse, but it will. I'm not so sure about a group literally taking their powers away, or just giving them the karma they need. I have never thought of it as elders just trying to scare the younger kids. That's a smart idea. I have thought of it about sins in Christian religion, that they are made, like the three fold law in your perspective, to just scare the children and even family to not 'commit sins' or evil. I personally don't think it is to 'spice up the craft' it may be true that there is an extremely higher coven that can take your powers away, or reduce them, or like an elder group that controls the whole of Wiccan society. But they aren't really known. Their may possibly be like groups of high covens to control an area. The thee fold law, is mostly based on the magical users. Hope this helps clear up the cobwebs!
The law of three is a wiccan law,and not all witches follow wicca,i know that doesn't answer your question, but it's something that people should know,i have heard that the elders in "whit magick" covens only use karma to scare the newer practitioners, but i have also seen old wiccans and others who acually do believe in it,so it's a very good question,i think that if karma doesn't get around to someone, then that is the time to use negative magick, but that's just my opinion.
All the three fold law states is that what ever you do will return to you three fold. In other words in lamans terms watch the things that you do because you never know what kind of effect that they will have on you or the people or places or things around you. I don't believe in the three fold part but you get the picture.
Salve
I dont know about the whole 3x thing. I do however belief that nothing comes without a price. Everything that is done requires some compensation. While this is usally in the form of energy I have found that many of the darker spells can take much more than just energy from the caster. On that same note, more good natured magick is often less taxing on the user. This could add credence to the three fold law, however it could also be that it is entirly based on the effort required for the spell. Also a more importan question is how magick could be based off karma. Karma is fundemently based on what the community believes is good and what is evil. for example, Human sacrifice is often viewed as evil, However the Aztecs used it to embrace there gods and saw it as good. This would seem to indicate the three fold law is based on personal views not some black and white guidlines.
Sorry if this seems jumbled. I was reasoning it out as i wrote.

In my opinion the Three-Fold Law applies to everyone whether they believe in it or not.
That being said, it is often misunderstood and looked at as some sort of Karmic retribution or punishment to scare us into being good little magic users. That was never the purpose of the Three-Fold Law. Nor does it mean that if you harm someone you will receive three times as much harm in return. Both of those are common misunderstandings or misinterpretations of the Law.
What the Law is telling all of us is that our choices and our actions have consequences and that those consequences come back to effect us physically, emotionally, and spiritually...hence the Three-Fold.
Here's an example. Say that you go through life always angry at others and seeking to get back at them.....
We know from medical research that persistent anger and hatred can cause many physical issues such as heart disease, stroke, gastric disease, high blood pressure, etc....hence the physical effect.
If you are always angry at people and lashing out at them you eventually drive them away from you. Who wants to always be around an angry person? This can lead to isolation, sadness, and depression...hence the emotional effect.
And going through life hating and being angry and cruel to others will also act to distance you from the Divine (by whatever name you know it.) Eventually you may no longer believe in or have connection to the Divine at all, leaving an important void in your soul...hence the spiritual effect.
Note that none of these effects require that you believe in them. They simply happen because of what you do...not because of what you believe. That, at least to me, is how the Three-Fold Law operates.
