Either one should be just fine. You probably could take it slowly, so as not to stress your self, by starting with trying to mentally visualize the image through the blackness and slowly make your way to where you see it like a daydream, surroundings and all. Detail is a very important key when it it comes to visualization. When I say to slowly go from one to the other, I mean as a progression throughout many exercises. It would also be a good idea to switch things up; after every so many tries on one object start working on another. At any rate, you still want your progression to be natural; not forced. So don't stress your self too much in trying to reach your goal.
