the fae are not physical beings such as you and I
they are astral or etheral

as to your questions it would depend on which you call, there are many sites with information

i do know of some calls and summoning for them, they're packed away somewhere. to me, however, the easiest way to call upon fae is to leave offerings. plant a garden with the right flowers, and leave sweet things. flowers that attract butterflies and hummingbirds typically attract fae as well. i don't work with fae so i'm not sure how long it'll take. i met one once, they're all around us, like spirits, you need to invite them to you i believe.

how to befriend fae i'm not sure, but i'm guessing it's the same as with other beings, be nice, treat it as an equal, leave offerings for it. fae like sweet things, so some honey, or sugar water, or candies works best.

I once read an Llewellyn's Herbal Almanac, I believe it was the 2005 edition, that had information on inviting them into your garden. It suggested using sweet smelling plants, such as violets, and shiny objects (wind chimes or those shiny garden globes) which were supposed to help attract them. You were then supposed to go out at night and invite them into your garden. After the invitation you were to leave a small offering of honey.

As to how long, it didn't give a time as to when they would actually arrive or make their presence known to you.

Sorry, I know this is a little vague, but it's been awhile since I actually read the article. I would suggest using a combination of the suggestions and see what you end up with. Trial and error are the best way to learn after all.
