If you can't turn yourself into a human again, then obviously shapeshifting didn't work as well as planned and personally I only believe you can shapeshift in the Astral Plane

I'm with Saphyr Rose on this one. The Native Americans used Psychotropic drugs to enhance visions to make them Think they were shapeshifting.....just some info for you guys

most of the time when someone refers to shapeshitfting, they mislead.
shapeshifting isn't necessarily the ability to change shape, but the ability to change your personality to fit a situtation/ group of people you're with.
it's most often refferred to as being hypocritical, but sometimes it is absolutely necessary

i believe that every animal has a specific soul design, and to shapeshift would be to change your soul, so you owuld no longer be you.
