You can certainly visualize while dreaming, though usually within the dream state your sub conscious uses to time to process everything that may have occur during your day. Also when people sleep is considered one of the times during the day or night when your mind becomes most open to extrasensory perceptions.

So dreams could be things you desire, events you'd like to see happen, and even visions of past, present, or future. So in theory yes you could be visualizing while dreaming.

Excuse me;
Are you trying to know about visualizing for spell work? If so, one of the ways to do this is meditation and it is an exercise to train our mind to hold a thought that we want. If you wish, may I humbly suggest how to do this?
The whole purpose of meditation is to train your mind to focus, to control your mind from the "chattering monkey"(your brain with many thoughts), and hold only the thought that you want, which is your desire, your intent, that you can charge up with your emotional energy, your wish, your spell. Then, when you think that you have enough of a "clear mental image" from your focused thought and fully involving your mind as much as you possibly can(from mental training with meditation) then, you are ready to hold a thought with much emotional energy to cast it out into the "universal supply."
What do I mean by "clear mental imagery?" In meditation, you clear your mind then, you can think of just your breathing and hum "aum" for awhile. This is kind of boring so, as an alternative, one can choose to train their mind in another method of meditation, which is holding "one serene scene" in your mind. For example; a placid lake scene, a waterfall scene, a riverside scene, a poolside scene, a beach scene. You can think of others you seem to be a bright person. From here, involve as many of your five(see, feel, hear, smell, taste) senses as is plausible in your "one serene scene." Try to think of this one scene only for one minute, then two minutes, then three minutes up to five minutes if you want, and longer if you like. Again, a meditation exercise is to train your mind to control your thoughts for another purpose. Or, just meditation in itself is rewarding enough to relieve stress.
Here is an example of one scene. A beach scene;
Sit in a comfortable chair or, lye down on your bed or elsewhere or sit in a lotus position. Choose a position that relaxes you but, not puts you to sleep.
Now, close your eyes and focus on your breathing and try to slow it down a little bit. After a few moments of this, then breathe in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth. After a few moments of this to get used to this then, imagine that you are at a secluded beach, you are sitting down in a chaise-lounge chair under the shade of palm trees gently swaying from a cooling sea breeze. Feel the the sea breeze, smell the salty air, feel your self in total comfort enjoying this beach scene. Look at the light blue sky with some white cumulus clouds and some sea gulls swaying in the wind, dancing in the air and, swooping down to catch their fish to eat. Hear them chattering far away, as sea gulls do, and you welcome these sounds as part of the beach scene. Now, look at the waves from the azure blue sea gently rolling in, undulating, coming in and out and wetting the sand. Hear these calming waves synchronize with the sea gull sounds like the sound of a beach orchestra, nature's opus. By your side you have a table and you have a cold drink and you take a sip. Be careful not to get "brain freeze!"
You see how many senses are involved in this one serene scene? And, you were totally safe from harm, with no excitement to get your mind off-track. You fully controlled your mind to only focus on what you wanted. And, nothing else mattered momentarily. Of course, you totally realize your environment and if a telephone rang, you would get out of your reverie and answer it, with full clarity of mind. This is true meditation. This is when you know you are good at it. You don't need to be a master at meditation, unless you want to be a Tibetan Monk or something like that along those lines. Meditation is visualization, you involve your mind but for a purpose, and that is mental control.
I hope this helps. Blessed Be.

Hello and you are welcome;
I dislike to be so quaint but, it really is up to your talents and capabilities within your diligence to achieve what you want.
Also please recall; "The whole purpose of meditation is to train your mind to focus, to control your mind from the "chattering monkey"(your brain with many thoughts), and hold only the thought that you want, which is your desire, your intent...,"
and what you are asking about; "a special ability
things like kinesis , telepathy, physic etc." this would be the next step after getting good at meditation exercises by holding on clearly (without the chattering monkey) to one thought. After this you would be able to clearly focuse on let's say a kinesis exercise. However, kinesis is a difficult exercise to perform with any results. Your mind clearly has to be well trained to completely focus on one thought and, that is to move an object. And again, this depends on your diligence, your talents and capabilities. But the mini-course that I have explained to you, is a step in the right direction, to expand on whatever else you have in mind.
I hope this helps. Blessed Be.

Visualization is the using your imagination to stimulate your senses to the point that it manifest in your senses. almost like inducing a psychosomatic experience. for example you imagine eating a grape and you feel the grape in your mouth as role it around your mouth then imagine to chew on it where in the first bite you feel the juice burst out on to your tongue and you taste the sweetness and tartness of the grape . and when you imagine swallowing you feel like you just ate.

I would not say that meditation and visualization are the same like what LoneStar said in his awesome post, but you can use visualization in your meditations.

Meditation is the process clearing ones mind to gain focus on your self, one thought/topic, or spiritual guidance
