I want to know some good tips on writing spells. Should they always rhyme, what words to use, etc.? Can you make up a spell on the spot and have it work? Thanks!

First of all, they don't have to rhyme, however the ones that rhyme work best. You see, most magick would be nothing without your subconcious will and for some reason spells that rhyme are able to tap into it better than say a spell that didn't rhyme at all. So, it's usually suggested that they do, especially if you're new to spellcasting and magick since your magickal power is less. One of the things I always suggest for spellwriting is that you are VERY specific, if you're not not it could have some very bad consequences, whether it backfires or not.
In terms of words, I tend to lean towards old fashioned poetic lingo, however this is not required. Aslong as it has words, and will, it could be spell. You can make up spells on the spot actually, however it's a bit risky, because again you might say the wrong thing and end up with a result different than the one you wanted. Most spell casters tend to check, check, and double check their spells before performing them, this may be wise in truth.
In terms of other tips: write from the heart, and have fun!
Good luck on your future spell writing.

Spell come from the heart and the purpose. Rhyming is not nessicry but most people like to use it just for effect. Any other question? Feel free to mail me or my other account Alysia

Its pretty simple just think of what your trying to achieve within the spell then think of words that would appeal to that spell and add them together. I literally just make them up in my head and make them up asw I go along.

earth air fire sea ive finished this thread as you can see make no harm come to thee this is my will so mote it be.

see its that simple.

The 2 most important aspects of spelling are visualisation and emotion. If you can see the desired outcome and emotionalise your rituals then it won't matter if the chant rhymes, nor what symbols you use, or if to use candles, incense etc.

In the northern tradition the rune-master would concoct a poem, but it rarely rhymed. eg in taking a branch from a tree and leaving thanks:-

'Wight of oak take my thanks
henceforth be thy might in this branch
deeply bound to the bright runes
working my will with speed.'

As you can see it don't rhyme but by 'eck it's powerful enough. The oak's reply has as yet remained unrecorded, though it's rumoured it might have been 'Ouch!'
