Buying Herb Seeds
By:
I was thinking about making making an herbal garden...but when i went to go pick out some herbs, I got kind of confused.
I've noticed there here are many kinds of basil, and more then one chamomile....so my question is, Does it matter which one i plant? Will they all do the same things in spells/rituals?

I would not buy herb seeds. They take an awful long time to germinate. It is best to buy from a garden centre or nursery. Buy partly grown, healthy plants. All will have names on them. Some names are different from the usual names. Ask an assistant about them. And think of where to plant! Some herbs grow very tall;sage, and bay trees, for instance.

There are two plants known as chamomile. One is the more popular German chamomile (Matricaria recutita), while the other is called the Roman, or English, chamomile ((Anthemis nobilis ). Although they belong to different species, they are used to treat similar conditions.
When you purchase seeds of plants or bulbs ,chech their bottanical names since few different plants can have similar or same folklore names .Botanical names of the plant are latin .
Basil names can vary too since they are different hybrids some created by nature and some are humanmade .
Right now i have two different hybrids of basil in my herbal garden ,and they are quet similar to appearance ,despite i have seen hybrid which is actually not with green but with purle leaves .
So in the case of basil as long as they are same specie it is ok ,but as you see in the case of chamomile two different species plants are called chamomile .
Do some research before purchase seeeds and my advice is learn the botanical names of the plants .As well do some research on their magical uses and medicine uses .
I tend to keep the labels of my plants with their botanical names so i can easely can google them and check how to care for them and for what to use them .
As for your question probably different people folowwing different tradition will give you differen answers .I go by what i feel teh best choice for me and i will advice you to do the same .Read few more opinions and decide which method will work out best for you .
I love my herbs and herbal garden .Growing your own herbs empower them pretty much and they are attuned to your energy so their medicine will help your magic and even improve your dishes .I prefer to grow them than just go and pick them from the market or from wild nature .
Happy growing !

Brysing actually some of the seeds do not take that much time to get going .In fact my coriander and dill seeds sprouted on their first week because i did provided for them warm and humid place to speed up the process .Parsley sproud fast too ,but thyme and rosemary seeds have very low germinaing rate so i will rather start those from cuttings or purchase estabilished plants .Oregano and basil took me two weeks .I did not have any luck with mint seeds as well .I started my english lavender from seeds and now after two seasons it is bush alike and starts to put its firts blooms since i prunned before two weeks .
Beesee i forget to mention that it is good to start your seeds in March or April if you want to enjoy your herbs for longer period ,since many of them die in winter and you have to start them again next spring ,except if you do not have heated greenhouse to keep them going .Lavender and rosemary once estabileshed are winter hardy in most zones and continents .
As for the Bay tree it can grow very huge tree i have seen them in Italy ,however it may not survive cold winter as you get in America and lately in UK.Therefore it needs winter protection that means or you need to get it inside the house or have heated greenhouse .In Itay because of the warm winters even Basil can survive and it does get quiet big and bushy as rosemary and lavender .

By the way, mint should be "contained". It "spreads" like you would not believe!

Yeah i was intending to have it in separate pot .I so love to read herbal forums and few folks cried out from mint inviding even their flower beds and they actually struggled to get rid of it .It is very sturdy plant once it gets estabilished .
Brysing tahnks for helping people in this forum .
