Yeah, I've been doing it all my life though, like, I just get this sort of. . . "emotional gut-feeling" from their words that let me know if they r lying or telling the truth.

Yeah, sometimes being an Empath is a good thing, but sometimes it sucks. it's incredibly hard for me to control my emotions. When i get mad, i get mad like no one else, and when i get sad, i get sad and shut everyone out. I hate having people say nice things about me, usually I'm the one to say nice things to people. And my friends always come to talk to me about problems cause they know i'll understand.
It is not a "power" or special psychic ability. Empathy is merely the intellectual ability to assume emotions of someone else in a certain situation. In other words, looking at it through someone else's perspective.
It is not an ability specially "inherited", it is a part of everyone's everyday life.
I have been saying the same thing over and over and over. Having superpowers is more fun than the truth, though. Go figure. -.-
The only way I see it as something "special" is when I notice how many people seem to be out of touch with the ability. They hide from their own emotions, or rarely take the time to just sit down and feel anything. There are degrees of awareness, but everyone can do it. :)
It's one of those things where you have to know yourself to know it in others; when you recognize fear, sadness, euphoria in yourself, you more easily pick up on it in others. It can be as metaphysical as picking up on "vibrations", or as mundane as picking up on body language. The most important part, in my opinion, is that you actually /feel/ the emotion, not simply recognize it as there. I pick up on emotions very easily and it can be very very stressful, especially when they exterior is doing everything it can to hide the emotion @_@ I won't even realize that they aren't my emotions, so by the time I try to shield and block myself I'm all upset or freaked out XD
