I'm fairly new to witchcraft, and I've noticed that I sometimes see flashes when reciting the words of power to a spell out loud (not actually casting it, just saying the words to memorise them). It's happened twice, and I only see white flashes out of my peripheral vision. Does anybody know if this has any significant meaning?
I get these flashes, in and outside of magickal workings. My vision is wonderful, so I know it's not anything to be worried about. I actually started seeing them after I first did sigil magick (ended up being a servitor), so it could be some energy in the room that you are picking up on. Even just reciting the words for memorization triggers your brain to go into 'magick mode', so you may be more receptive at that time. Do you see them when you aren't occupied with magick?
No. I've only seen them twice so far. I'd heard of someone else seeing a similar flash when using LoA methods and decided to ask about it.
On a sidenote, a spirit has apparantly been trying to contact me for a month now, though not by means of sending flashes. What would be the best way to make contact? I'm considering spirit boards but they have somewhat of a bad reputation.
I think spirit boards are far overhyped, personally. They are a powerful tool, obviously, but malevolent spirits can contact you just as easily through a pendulum or a deck of cards.
I think spirit boards are great for communication (with spirits, guides, beings) because you have the alphabet right there, instead of the yes/no of a pendulum or the interpretation of tarot cards. Just make sure to put up a nice energy barrier, and only allow that spirit to enter. If it gets kind of weird (assuming this isn't a nasty spirit), just shut it down and close the circle. I used to keep a ouija journal, but I have no privacy now at school. I have never had a mean spirit come through, so I believe it's who you WANT to contact. You may not always get who you were looking for; but if you go looking for trouble, you'll find it.
I use a pendulum over a circular spirit board, which works nicely but the letters have to be space properly (26-pointed star, yippie!) to get a clear result. You could write the letters in an arc, too, and draw lines from them connecting to one point, to trace the swing of the pendulum.
