Does the type of wood effect the magical properties of the wand, say, certain types could be weaker or stronger than others? What would you say is the ideal wood for wand crafting?
I personality prefer a peace of clear quartz just as a wand is intended it directs energy, but clear quartz also focuses and emps it, so wood wands are not my favorite thing, but they are also one of the least useful types of wands
I do know that wands are useful expecially to witches. A lot of ideas are made up or googled. But bring to the REAL way.All you do is find anything long and thin,cast all the spells you know at it then well,think of happy things for white magic wand,sad for black magic wands. After reading through this list of posts, I thought I'd add my own 2 cents.
First, those stating that the wand is an extension of you are correct. So, those freaking out about the "how" should focus more on the "why." A wand can be anything that stores your energy. It can be a rock, crystal, or wood. It can be a plastic pen if you like!
Second, putting things together to make a wand makes the wand more powerful because of the effort YOU are putting into it, not because you have more in it. The more energy you share with it, the more naturally (and the easier) it will charge.
Third, I personally believe (and someone else may back me up or disagree) that if you break something to make a wand you are making a dark/evil wand that will focus your dark energy. So, if you use bone or break a tree to make the wand, that force goes into your wand. It is my opinion that this is one of the reasons you shouldn't get a stick with fungus in it. Not only will it rot, but this reeks of death. Otherwise, if you use things you find, this is natural so this wand would be better served for storing your good energy. And, if you feel in tune or a call from too many dark objects, you may need to get your energy priorities fixed before making a wand. Just saying.
Third, you may have more than one wand (though I would discourage anyone from making an dark energy wand). The size only matters as a point of comfort, and if you feel something calling to you or the need for another wand, follow that path.
Last, there is no wrong way to make a wand, unless you are trying to make a light/good wand and make a dark/evil one by mistake. A good wand will become a dark wand if you fill it with dark energy. But yes, you can buy a wand, just be sure it calls to you and make it yours. Look at a wand like a tuning fork - if it's ringing your tone you've found one that will work with you. If not you can try to tune it or keep looking. It's that simple.
OK so of says to make wand bla bla bla.BUT it says to make the wand and then...it never says a chant ...tthat will just makes it a regular decorated stick ..correct?please help.
A chant is not necessary unless you believe it is. To some, simply finding a wand, whatever it may be, which resonates with them (as in it just seems right, to put it as simply as possible) is enough for them to use it successfully as the wand is intended.

OK I'm really new and really... I'll just say it dumb. I am only 17 but I'm not just a teen hooked on hocus pocus or whatever. I'm not sure about wands but I just had to ask. I have a stick... Well a plant. It was a herbal plant called a quasi a amara. When it died at about 14 inches high the thin stem was basically a twig. It isn't fancy and its kinda awkward in shape but more or less straight. Would it do? I don't wanna decorate it though. Call it sentiment but it attracted me to keep it for the last few months just because I like how it looks. Would it work as a wand or not. Also what are wands most common for? Like what usage?
