Actually Recreational Fluids, and herbal substances have been used to enhance performance in most fields of magick. However it's not advised due to health problems and law. However people are known to preform better under herbal/fluid influence, such as Aleister Crowley.
Virgil although I agree with some of what you said, Aliester Crowley is a rather disturbing example, I'm not going to go into why on the public forum though.
Tristania, in small amount herbal substances as well as liquid ones, do help those who have minor in habitations to overcome them. I know many practitioners who have severe anxiety who will use a couple hits off a joint, to help reduce their anxiety level so that they can focus, same applies to OCD practitioners as well as those with ADD/ADHD.
I think that getting buzzed/drunk would mess up your concentration. But maybe a little 'tipsy' would help, seeing as you would be kind of calmer... I don't know, I haven't gotten drunk before :(
I'm talking no more than 1 beer, or 2 beers tops, enough alcohol to mellow your mind, but not inhibit concentration to the point where nothing is practical or possible. Same applies to cannabis, one or two hits, but do not push excess because it will inhibit everything you are trying to do.
Difrent things have been used by 'oracels' and shamans and so on to help them to go into trances and such troo history.
But also. Moste of those have from werry young age been 'chosen' and learned to that purpose and so on.
Yes. It can help. But also give you a 'wronge feel' about how things work. (talking from experiece) for the 'magickal' point it can give you a boost. But you can get 'adicted' to 'that you need it to work' kind of thing.
(and that's also if you only try by by booze)
Have to point out that i'm mostly refering to energy work now. But it's one of my main 'powers'
but it is one way to figure out things tho. If you use booze, and focus on 'how it works' (if you get result) and then go about the 'basic's'
(that is if you have no result at all from the normal aprotch. )
'tho learning from wronge ways might be fasther and more efective. By doing it propher and right. Well. You wil just feel much bether about the whole thing'
To quote my BoS, under the heading of "Useful Rules to Live By:"
2. If Crowley did it, chances are you shouldn't be doing it.
Best words of advice I ever had :)

Alcohol is a neural depressant with few other useful properties, so not especially useful for inducing astral projection. It might help you to relax in small quantities, but unless you're going at it from an inhibitory gnosis angle, I'd agree with SilverVixen and recommend only a small ammount.
