I've decided to write this post because not many seem to talk about the importance of cleansing oracle and tarot decks. This would also share some ways in cleansing them. The last link above explains the difference between the pair, so if you wish to learn about that. Click the last link.
Like with every magical tool out there. One should always cleanse a deck. This is after you buy them and after you work with them, for a reading.
Decks are like sponges. They soak up other people's energies, especially if you start reading for other people. Or you allow other people to pick their own cards during readings. There is nothing wrong with this, allowing your clients to pick a card is honestly the best part in card reading. At least it is for me. You just need to be mindful about cleansing them.
You don't have to cleanse a deck every time someone else touches them. At least in my experience and my opinion it is not necessarily. If you feel like it is, then go ahead and do so. If you don't. Than you can wait until the end of the week or the end of the month. There are many ways one can cleanse a deck, normally the guidebook of the deck of cards will share how to cleanse them with you.
You also don't need tools to do this job. Remember it's all about intentions , set the intention that you are cleansing the cards. I use to put them in order, with the window open and allowed the fresh air to breeze past them. I still do this, counting them can be quite relaxing in my opinion.
If you have a Pendulum laying about you can work with it to help you cleanse your deck, but make sure to cleanse the Pendulum before hand. Swing it to left to right and image the energy proofing away like smoke. You can stop, when you feel it is right to do so. I like to shuffle the deck shortly afterwards before putting them away.
The following site above also states you can work with crystals if you wish to. Personally this is something I wouldn't do, but thought to share the link since it gave me the Pendulum idea.
If there's a moon out, you can leave the decks on your windowsill at night with the intention to cleanse them.
There's a small section in Doreen Virtue tarot cards that state you can swipe your hand across the cards, say a prayer to the spirit you believe in and your decks will be cleansed. I have tried this in the past, but didn't feel like this was the one for me, but it might work for you. Sage may help.
However, what I find that helps me is Mother Earth herself. Make sure the lawn is as clean as it can be, so nothing can stain or ruin your cards. What I like to do is on a warm sunny day. Place them on the grass and leave them there for a couple of hours. Now, where do you think your going? Don't leave them there by themselves, the wind might come along or maybe unexpected rain might happen. Stay close by to them and keep an eye on them, earth yourself while your at it.
Sometimes I feel like I need to put them back in order and shuffle them again. I than leave them back on the ground, thank Mother Earth for helping me. Take them off and go back to my life. Sunlight would also help them.
In short make sure to cleanse your cards. They are like any other tool, one works with them in their practice. I don't see people talking about it enough so I decided to share this post.
