They seek to become the masters of their own destiny. as well a wizard has a certain persona about it which I like, I have been learning bits and pieces about magical practices since I was 14 and am starting to place some of what I have learned into practice,

"Magic has stepped out of the movies, morphed from the pages of fairy tales, and taken root in the modern mind. Soccer moms are getting voodoo head washings in their backyards, young U.S. soldiers send chants toward pagan gods of war, and a seem-ingly normal family has determined that they are in fact elves. Hundreds of thousands of Americans are turning toward the supernatural in new ways, blending the ancient and the modern for a hyper-charged spirituality. They are reaching back in time to powers that have sustained the human imagina-tion for thousands of years." ~ christine wicker Not in kansas anymore

10 things to stop doing to yourself

  1. Give up trying to be perfect. The real world doesnt reward perfectionists, it rewards people who get things done. Read Getting Things Done.
  2. Give up comparing yourself to others. The only person you are competing against is yourself.
  3. Give up dwelling on the past or worrying too much about the future. Right now is the only moment guaranteed to you. Right now is life. Dont miss it.
  4. Give up complaining. Do something about it.
  5. Give up holding grudges. Grudges are a waste of perfect happiness.
  6. Give up waiting. What we dont start today wont be finished by tomorrow. Knowledge and intelligence are both useless without action.
  7. Give up lying. In the long-run the truth always reveals itself. Either you own up to your actions or your actions will ultimately own you.
  8. Give up trying to avoid mistakes. The only mistake that can truly hurt you is choosing to do nothing simply because youre too scared to make a mistake.
  9. Give up saying, I cant. As Henry Ford put it, Whether you think you can or you think you cant, you are right.
  10. Give up trying to be everything to everyone. Making one person smile can change the world. Maybe not the whole world, but their world. Start small. Start now. ~ marcandangel hack life

If it works use it if it doesin't Dont

Appropriation is a bad word. Taking words, rituals, practices, thought processes or anything you find beautiful about a culture to which you do not belong is racisist and implys that you wish to erase that culture. Even if you can trace your heritage back to a culture you didnt grow up in you still have absolutely no right to it. I call bullshit. If you didnt grow up on a native american reservation remove the terms spirit animal and totem from your vocabulary. If youre not romani you can have no opinion on the meaning of a word that didnt even come from their language. Does this mean if i didnt grow up in india i cant do yoga or belly dance? I guess i need to throw out my hoops because i didnt grow up on a native reservation. Chopsticks? No way, not unless you were born and raised in asia; that must mean no martial arts either. No dreds for you unless you grew up in africa. And i guess we had all better throw away our tarot decks because who knows where that really originated! Why is it such a slight to these cultures to incorporate pieces of them into our own lives? We are all human beings, when one group creates something awesome shouldnt they want to share it with others? Why must everyone suffer as they have suffered in order to think what they have come up with is wonderful? Now if an element of your culture is being used incorrectly, by all means speak up! But youre going to catch more flies with honey than vinegar, as the saying goes. (Can i say that? Im not sure who said it first!) When you see someone who is simply unaware that they are misrepresenting either your culture or a culture with which you are familiar and your first response to call them a racist cunt, you might want to rethink your approach. Politely tell them why you think theyre wrong, provide them with sources and legitimate reasons, perhaps some more accurate study material. If you find yourself incapable of being nice when you havent been intentionally attacked, or you dont think its your job to educate the uninformed, just dont ~ Violetgypsygirl
