The "Holistic' or "New age" movement Is a diverse collection of small groups who share not so much one creed as an attitude of optimistic faith in the future, a belief in personal growth, and a open-mindedness towards nontraditional forms of spirituality, alternative lifestyles, and supernautral phenomena. The new age movement is often uncrItical, some might say na?ve or even gullible. Everything you can imagine is found somewhere in this loose alliance of electric visionaries.

Open minded or simple minded?
Channeling of disembodied spirits, healing with crystals, worship of gia the eartj goddess, every sort of divination, contacts with extraterrestrials, communicating with dolphins, alternative therapies, eastern medicine, immortalism, past life life regression, conversing with angels, exploring of ley lines, become more successfull of using the power of the mind, even supposed genetic reprogramming, are all on offer through books and weekend workshops which promise miraculous transformation.

Spiritual individualism
The great vitue of the new age movement is that it givesa spiritual dimension to modern individulism. It frees people from feeling they must join a established religion in order to have a spiritual life, and empowers individuals to find a set of beliefs and practices that are right for them personally, however, new age spirituality can be superficial. Because it concentrates so much on empowering individuals to be become more successfull and to fulill their deepest desries, it often ignores the perennial spiritual teachings of selflessness. New age spirituality runs the risks of encouraging asherents to become more powerfull people, rather than transcending the personality altogether and discovering the deeper nature.

Be well
