Okay, I've read a ton of things on astral projection and the part that I can't get is the seeing your astral body separate from your physical one.

For some reason I can't do this. I'm great at visualizing it but I can't get it to actually happen, and I'm following all the things that I'm supposed to do and I've tried various ways.

So how, in great detail, do I separate my astral body from my physical one?
