So, this will be the beginning of my research series on supernatural creatures, which arent fluff, and you might came across, from mostly neutral theological stance. You will learn of their origin, substance, ways they act and what to do if you come across them.

Shadow people... There are two theories about shadow people, one is scientific and other one is demonology based.
Some say that they are ghosts, or visitors from a different reality, different dimension, but well, lets cling onto our universe for now... First thesis is based on the theory that whole cosmos is not created from something called "the big bang", but from something called theory of broken symmetry. Tell me what is greatest sum of some quality, quantity, greatest sum of numbers? Is it "infinity"? No it is not, infinity spans in two opposite directions, into positive infinity and negative infinity, sum of those two is zero. In beginning there was void, a nothingness, and everything that exist is created by breaking that symmetry by simply "pulling" something out of that zero. In our cosmos there is something called anti-matter, and it consists of anti-atoms and anti-subatomic particles, it is matter that, instead going ''forward'' or in ''causal'' way in time, it ''moves'' in anti-causal manner, going ''back'' in ''time'' (not taking steps backwards like in some funny movie). Same rule applies to energy, and I should mention that this theory is proved by simple observation of our surroundings on cosmological scale, since there is much less anti matter in universe than matter itself. So, relying to this theory, Shadow people can be "cosmical mistakes" of our decaying reality, of our fallen creation, anti-entities of random people that exist or that existed, or should have existed...
It pulls along something called the ''Mandela effect''

The Mandela Effect refers to a situation in which a large mass of people believes that an event occurred when it did not. Looking at the origin of the Mandela effect, some famous examples, as well as some potential explanations for this strange confluence of perceptions can help to shed light on this unique phenomenon.
The term "Mandela Effect" was first coined in 2009 by Fiona Broome when she created a website to detail her observance of the phenomenon. Broome was at a conference talking with other people about how she remembered the tragedy of former South African president Nelson Mandela's death in a South African prison in the 1980s.
However, Nelson Mandela did not die in the 1980s in a prison—he passed away in 2013. As Broome began to talk to other people about her memories, she learned that she was not alone. Others remembered seeing news coverage of his death as well as a speech by his widow.
Broome was shocked that such a large mass of people could remember the same identical event in such detail when it never happened. Encouraged by her book publisher, she began her website to discuss what she called the Mandela Effect and other incidents like it.
Alternate Realities
One theory about the basis for the Mandela effect originates from quantum physics and relates to the idea that rather than one timeline of events, it is possible that alternate realities or universes are taking place and mixing with our timeline.1 In theory, this would result in groups of people having the same memories because the timeline has been altered as we shift between these different realities.
You aren't alone if you think this sounds a little unrealistic. Unfortunately, the idea of alternate realities is unfalsifiable, meaning that there is no way to truly disprove that these other universes don’t exist.
This is why such a far-fetched theory continues to gain traction among the Mandela effect communities. You can't prove it's not real, so you can't totally discount the possibility of it. For many people, the excitement of a bit of mystery to everyday life also likely comes into play.

So, are out there some other ''realities''? possibly not. Other worlds yes, even within every human whole microcosms exist, and our macrocosm is that cosmic ocean of myriads of microcosms interacting with each other, reality known to us and one we live is simply conjunction of all possible dimensionalities. Infinite possible dimensions compressed into one and only reality...
Then the existential question rises, what IS reality? your subjective empiricism, only fragments you can experience trough five or six basic aggregates?
Quantum foam
Quantum foam (also known as spacetime foam or spacetime bubble) is the quantum fluctuation of spacetime on very small scales due to quantum mechanics. Matter and antimatter are constantly created and destroyed. These subatomic objects are called virtual particles. The idea was devised by John Wheeler in 1955.
So basically quantum foam is puncture in reality, smallest bit of existence created by the ''wave of potention'' concentrated long and intense enough to become fragment of reality...So basically, mater is non existent, and further you go to the micro scale, more you realize its just empty space carried on smaller and smaller blocks until you hit that foam, and unwrap it, and you get pure intention, carried and carrying energy, which is only solid reality.

Conclusion:
We are mortal, fallen beings that span from 0 to 10th dimension, with endless potential but physically bound to three dimensional space, mingling with each other in a duel of fates and wills, and as old Welsh song Cad Goddeu sung in Sanskrit says, ''Dreadful head dreadful speak give'', we force our will onto others, and we manifest our reality with our cognitive infinity within us, acting as engine, and we reshape the outside world with it, and since we live in world governed by will and word (''And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.'';Genesis 1:3) we force harm as well as good onto fellow men, and unto ourselves, sometimes creating echoes in macrocosm, left to ring in between worlds, to linger in gray zone of possibilities ripping a wound in the reality, creating pockets of shadow where light of definite and absolute does not shine, thusly giving opportunity for malign force to infect that wound. Rifts in the reality, ripples creating chasm of uncertainty, dark tunnels trough space&time into other possibilities that could exist, acting as womb of utter darkness, giving birth to such extraordinary creatures, echoes of something that wants to exist in our reality, being purely absent of energy or draining it from those who come in contact with it, or simply observing us trough cracks on our walls...

How to avoid them and defend from/banish them?

Why all supernatural creatures in myths and legends appear at night, or in obscure ambience? why small specks of radiation like reflected sunlight off the moon play important factor of the dichotomy in the nature of light and darkness giving essence of life to such creatures. In the daytime, we are all bathed in Sun's radiation, and its like loud song, so if you were to sing, or talk, you could not hear yourself or others unless you attune and practice to overcome the loudness. thats the reason why most spiritual practices are during night time, dusk or dawn, it all plays certain role...(Also i would like to mention similar effect like that of the sun, from electromagnetic radiation coming from sources/devices that we daily use or those made on purpose for warding off entities like those, mechanisms made to function ot Aetherical energies, proton cells, orgone contraptions, etc. just havng shorter range as you can immagine)... But at night, there is no such loud rocknroll coming from such intense source like sun, but we are exposed to something called Gause's static, or simply cosmic static. its like quite song of crickets mimicking and synesthesing starlighy into their soft song, leaving space for other things to speak loudly and appear during that particular time, or simply obscurity and isolation of certain places giving such properties) Places like that are like mossy shadowy woods great place for mushrooms to grow, only its not mushrooms in this instance but shadow people we are talking about.

So best way to avoid and defend yourself from them is to avoid such time and space, to have source of constant energy radiation, something little more powerful than lightbulb, maybe tesla coil or plasma ball, something giving off energy, using UV lamp for direct confrontation,, proton and aetheric devices, prayers, frankincence, reading psalms, loud music, being down to earth and realistic, grounding, shining energy fields (or simply do your patronum...just kidding)
