Painful Projection

I just had a really painful astral projection experience and I'm not sure if astral projection is supposed to be painful. I was in a dream when I decided to astral project, I knew that I had the opportunity to and I could feel myself leaving but as soon as I got close I felt a painful suction on my head and neck that made me crash back down into my body and people in my dream started demanding that I take them too when I leave my body. I freaked out and tried 4 times but each attempt got the same results and the people in my dream got more insistant that I take them with me when I leave my body in a very creepy way and then I woke up with a lot of neck pain. Is astral projection supposed to be this painful? Are there any tips to prevent further pain?

It sounds to me as though you were still dreaming and not actually astrally projecting. The neck pain could be the result of sleeping with your neck in a poor position on your pillow. Generally one is still awake when you astral project so that you maintain control of the projection throughout the experience.

I agree with lark also you won’t be able to project if your physical body becomes uncomfortable in the process. As of now I have no explanation for the creepy voices besides it being a nightmare.

Sounds like you became lucid, then tried to astral project your dream self out of your dream body. People demanding that you take them with you seems rather odd, since if they were out of your body they wouldn't need you to take them anywhere.

Defiantly sounds like a lucid dream you were trying to control but you obviously didn't have control over the entire dream. Astral projection isn't done in a sleep state but you certainly had a dream about astral projection while sleeping. Have you tried astral projection outside of a dream? If so you should understand that astral projection is done through a meditative state rather than a sleep cycle. The brain activity is very different during each of these. Most likely your body pain is from an issue with the brain keeping your body still while asleep combined with poor sleeping positions. Chemicals are released from the brain to put the body into a state of paralyses while you sleep. If you fight hard in a dream particularly a vivid dream it is common to wake up with sore body parts because your brain fought to have control over both the mind and body during a time the body and mind was to be resting. Your body may even move slightly as this occurs and you may feel as though you hit the bed while falling cause you actually were moving upward away from the bed before falling or while fighting in the dream.

I used to hit the bed while sleeping a lot when I was very young because of the vivid dreams I would have. It took a lot of meditation to help heal this sleep issue as it often meant I didn't have restful sleep. Through meditation on a daily basis through my teens I was able to learn to astral project and also how to keep my vivid dreams from disrupting my body's resting state. Now when I have vivid dreams I don't have the body pain issues as much but I am able to spot the vivid dream even if it's a nightmare. Thankfully and I am extremely grateful that I don't have many of these nightmare's any more since leaving an abusive marriage about 4 years ago.Everything in your life effects your mind and body be sure to treat both kindly <3
