Disc. & Classes

Hello loves! An idea that I have been batting around for a while is using the SoM chatter for site-wide discussion topics and classes for our members. The idea being that we pick an evening and time and get everyone together for member picked discussion topics that they're interested in learning more about or class topics that we can cover over a few weeks.

This serves two purposes. 1.) Getting more members involved in chatroom discussions and 2.) Offering our members real-time Q & A with educational, magic topic.

So with that in mind:

  • How many people do we have interested in this?
  • How many people would be interested in possibly leading topics?
  • What topics are you interested in learning more about/having a discussion or class on?
  • What days and times (please provide timezones) are best for you for something like this?

You can either respond here or send me a mail message.

I'm trying to see how many we have interested to better accommodate our member and allow us to properly set things like this up.

I love this idea!

I'd only be able to attend Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and maybe Thursday evenings.

Anything involving energy, astrology, spirit work, hedge, green, or deity work/worship would be interesting to me!

I can perhaps help lead a q and a style discussion class on astrology and space cleansings.

My times will probably be around 6 pm eastern standard time, but I would like to try and schedule a date for these. I am not currently certain which month may be best. I feel perhaps in mid June will work. I will try and figure it out soon and let you know the dates. That way you can have the information available to take down.

It is something I would be greatly interested in as well! ... However my experience with the site chatter has gotten soured of late. There would need to be some preparation done on the part of the mods of the chat, as that kind of discussion would involve lengthy (probably multi-post) chat-roll discussion, and also debate (which invariably gets a bit passionate). There would need to be assurances that the mods would be willing to let people talk. Particularly as explaining a concept could take literal paragraphs, which could be seen as 'spam' posting and get people silenced permanently. (Direct experience talking, both as witness to others and personally)

Don't get me wrong here, I have no complaints on the rules for the chat themselves. And I have no criticisms for them. But I have had personal witness and experience with mods interpreting those rules in a way that's ... for lack of a better way of putting it... not consistent with an atmosphere of welcome or open discussion. The risk of getting gagged site-wide and being forced to re-build an account because of being a little verbose when offering help and advice is an unnecessary stress.

My goal with this is to make members feel comfortable with being in the chatter, hearing their opinions, offering information on topics, etc. If the impromptu classes and discussions are on magical topics, I see no reason for the members to be gagged. The issue I am concerned about is the chatter text limit, but if the messages are pertaining to the discussion, members should not be gagged for that if they are discussing a topic or providing information.

Spamming emojis or caps will cause the chatter to auto gag an account. As long as that doesn't occur, there should not be any issues.

I am hoping to be able to attend the discussions and class days, to both make sure topics don't become too heated and to help the class or discussion leader, should they need it.

I am sorry to hear about the issues previously, but I can assure you that is not what this is meant to do. I have the interests of our members in mind and I hope we can create something wonderful by setting things like this up.

I've been trying to do this with my coven. I'll have to see my availability because I'd love to see how this works out!

Sounds like a lovely idea,
as in some members are shy(I know I was)and would be great so they could get more involved in discussions and learn more, I would be interested in this topic
I could lead anything involving elemental magic, energy, kitchen witchery, astral projection, crystals as those I've had the most experience I think a good time would be weekend as for many people including myself have work during the week I could attend Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Wednesdays I think it would really help members nice idea:)
Blessed Be

I'm going to make a list of topics and days once I'm home from work. I'd like to make this a weekly or bi-weekly thing, where we can get everyone in chat for a discussion or class.
