Its best not to use anything at all to get your ex boyfriend back. Witchcraft isn't the solution to everything, especially not broken relationships. If he's meant to come back he will on his own time. Don't use magic to bring him back. Sit down to have a chat with him instead, or don't bother with him at all.
The use of blood does not make a spell more good or evil. It's simply binding a part of yourself to the spell, and creating a direct connection with your essence, or whatever else someone may use to describe it. However it should be deeply considered why blood is being used, as it can have deeper personal consequences if things don't work out with the spell as planned.

Good idea not to use blood in spells, it is as has been said ties you too much to the spell.
Instead focus on visualisation, picture what you want and the way it makes you feel not the sadness of being alone but the joy of being with your chosen, imagine senarios make it frequent but remember not to become obsessive. The combination of the two will help you find what you are looking for. This is a gentller method that can sway a heart.

There is no good or evil magic, only the intentions of the witch matter when using magic.
But if you're using blood, it's for evil purposes.

Blood will not strengthen a spell. It is simply the means of a tool chosen by the caster to connect them to their intentions. There is no such thing as good or evil magic, white or black magic. Magic is its own entity without the constraints of boarders and separations. It comes down to the user or caster of this energy. If their intentions are good or evil is what makes a spell appear that way. Blood magic has been used in many different practices throughout history. It is not evil nor is its use to have evil or negative outcomes. Many who practice this method only use a drop and again, it is only to enhance that individuals connection to the spell. If you do not practice blood magic it won't make your spell any different. I would do your spells how you have always done them, being sure that your intentions and focus are true to what you want. I always caution on love spells and encourage a different approach due to their often negative results but everyone is allowed to make their own decisions on the matter.
One alternative that many people who like the connection of blood magic but don't want to prick their finger each time they want to cast, have used alternative forms of "blood". This can be dyed ink (red), water with food coloring or crushing up dragons blood and adding vodka or some other bonding liquid that will pull out the red from the root. (this process takes longer as the root must sit a long time-days-to produce any sort of color to write or use in a spell). These are just suggestions as an alternative if you are curious about blood magic and wish to start working with it as an aid but don't want to use actual blood.
