How do we know which spells are real and which ones arent?

Common sense, mostly. If it sounds to crazy to be real, it probably is.

Any of the spells in the Fantasy or Trick sections are fake.

But there are a lot of spells in other sections which aren't real either. So common sense is your best guide there. Or write your own spells. That's another option.
