Being called by...?
By:
I have had a deity call to me last year while lighting incense. The incense I bought were colored differently. I bought them in red, green, and yellow. During this time I felt called to vodoo or a type of practice like it. I was not certain what. The other day while doing research I came across the Santeria deity Osain. I feel strongly that this was the deity calling me.

I am uncertain if offering to this deity is alright or not? I mean plant based offerings and tobacco etc.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Typically offerings are made to Osain after he has done something for you, rather than before. Usually after being saved, or cured of an illness.

Though I cannot in good conscious recommend you make offerings to Osain, considering his offering are live animal sacrifices. Though I certainly cannot stop you if that's the direction you wish to go, I would recommend speaking to someone who practices Santeira, particularly whatever their equivalent of a spritual leader is, before making any sort of rash decisions.

I had meant leaving offerings to Osain that are not animal sacrifices but I suppose as that is not the norm in the religious practice it would not be seen as religious worship of Osain.

And it would not be a form of Santeria. So I could not use Osain in my practice without strictly practicing Santeria?

Thank you for answering you've helped me to understand better.

You could work with him outside of Santeira. I've worked with Lwa without practicing Voudon. Though it's still best to learn from those that do practice it.

Thank you yes I had meant to work with him outside of the religion. I'd like to incorporate the incense in a working, but perhaps there is no reason I could not use the incense in accordance with another deity altogether. You've helped to clear this up for me.

Thanks!
