Do remember that you cannot physically shape shift into another creature. But you can certainly take on an animal form during astral projection.

Ok, I didn't shapeshift and I'm not saying I did, it was just a suggestion from a friend. I'm saying I saw a shadow wolf turn into my shadow. I don't think asrtal projection was apart of this

There's a cool little story about wolves. It might help explain what you saw, or leave you nothing with only a fairly tale. There's a story about people having two wolves, inside of them, one white and one black. These wolves represent how we see life, the white with positive and the black with negative. If you were doubting yourself durning this time, than maybe your shadow manifest into the wolf to show you, what you may need to change in life. We are what we think.

Symbolism: Wolf is a symbol of guardianship, ritual, loyalty, and spirit. Wolf has the ability to make quick and firm emotional attachments, and often need to trust their own instincts. Thus they teach us to do the same, to trust our hearts and minds, and have control over our own lives.

If you are researching shape sifting, than it might be a time, where you need to sit down and think. Ask yourself if this is something you are ready to do, or even want to do. If you've been asking in wanting to meet you're animal guides. Than a Wolf might be one of them.

It might be a warning that you need to shield yourself a little more, or to claim back your power if you have lost it in anyway. It could be a sign that whoever you believe in, that you are protected, or maybe this project is something that should be considered to do in a group.

I'm also going to a share my own experience, it may help you with. It wasn't a wolf, like you had seen, but outside my house I saw a shadow dog running past, I knew I wasn't seeing things since my dogs saw it the same time I did, and bark at it when it ran past. I felt a lot happy, and more excitement in life. To get to the point, I found out one of the many things about a dog totem is also a sign. That the paranormal, or the unseen becomes the norm in life.Which is starting to come true, for my own persona path.

Unfortunately I'm not you, and I don't know how you felt after seeing the shadow. I do, however suggest researching about totem animals. It might help you, to some extended to understand what you were seeing.

Shape shifting is also all about accepting the change in life.

Our shadows often change when we are moving as buildings, etc cause the shadow we cast to not be cast fully and evenly. So going around a corner or having something block out part of your shadow can make your shadow look like something other than you are. When you move on that shadow will change again. That might be what happened here.

Or, as has been suggested, it might be a hint of a spirit animal trying to get your attention. Spirit animals are different from totems. A spirit animal is a personal guide, my own is a grey whale. A Totem is an animal protector of a Native American tribe or clan.

It is not unusual to encounter spirits in this way. My parents never believed in magic and concepts that were that abstract. When my dog passed away, I saw a glimpse of the same spirit of the animal walking through the halls. I told my parents and they said my brain was playing tricks on me. Later in the night I heard faint barking noises of the pet that thought I replaced it but ended up becoming good friends with. Dogs are basically domesticated wolves, so maybe this creature is guarding me? There are certain spiritual aspects of animals I believe that give them their character other than their fleshy anatomy. I had dreams when I was in astral projection and saw creatures I have never seem before in my entire life like a six legged predator that looked like it had a bear's body, but a longer tail and a wider head with teeth; not to mention it was stripped the same way a tiger would be.
