There are a lot of people who would insist that astral projection is a fully immersive experience, if not an out-of-body experience. In reality, the term was coined to denote the realm of dreams -- that is, perception through the subconscious mind. Astral work can be as simple as directed visualization, or as involved as fully immersive out-of-body experiences.

The thing is, as you practice it becomes easier. Doing something similar to the current concept of path walking is an easy beginning: Deliberately visualizing yourself in one environment, changing yourself, moving about and transitioning to another state or environment can be a way to switch more to the metaphysical than the purely imagined.

As for astral travel in the 'real' world, there are some who consider that ethereal travel, as some beliefs distinguish between the astral (mental) plane and the metaphysical aspect of the physical world -- which is 'spiritual' in nature (for lack of a better term off-hand), but still among the physical plane, as opposed to the spiritual plane. That is, the aether is sort of like spiritual air, undetectable to our physical senses, but is the 'stuff' in our physical world through which some believe spirits travel. Again, to clarify, all of this is belief -- a matter of faith, and not fact. Your own experiences, research, and intuition will vary your own perception of these things. But I have digressed a little.

As for ethereal travel, when done without an immersive experience, it is much more akin to remote viewing. There are some instances in which a person claims others saw or otherwise experienced the effects of their presence in the aether, but again, none of this is actually verifiable. That said, there have been some very interesting results from remote viewing experiments.

I'd say do as you wish, and always proceed with caution. If anything goes awry, you can always snap back to being fully conscious in an instant.

Begin with meditation. Practice visualization. Basically, astral projection is a deliberate visualization, progresses through a self-induced lucid dream, and into more immersive states.

Working on lucid dreaming can be an effort in an of itself, but lucid dreaming is an important step to astral projection. If you need a to do list, or step by step guide I would say: 1) meditate 2)lucid dream 3) astral project 4) astral travel

Lucid dreaming isnt very hard, it just takes a little mental reprogramming. I thought it very effective to just continuously ask myself whenever I thought of it "am I sleeping?" and when Im awake of course the answer is no. This habbit easily transfers into your sleep. soon you will find yourself asking "am I sleeping?" in your dreams, and your subconscious self is very honest. I have heard "yes" as if someone else were there answering me, and sometimes when I forgot to ask I heard something tell me "you're asleep," as if there were another being in my dream with me.

Although I have not successfully astral projected on purpose (there have been a few accidents), I have read a few things on how to. Once in your lucid dream state, you can just imagine yourself in a different location. This may still be just a lucid dream, however. Or after in the lucid dream, you could retract your consciousness back to your body, almost like waking up. In the half waking, half sleeping state you may try to first move just a limb. Such as lifting an arm or bending your 'astral' knee. This may be more of a test to see if you have made it to the state and see what it feels like. from here people have different methods of leaving their body. You can just try to float up to the ceiling, or some find it easier to roll out of their body as if rolling over in bed.

Astral Travel is quite possible, yes.

I have learned that the best way to do any magickal practice is through meditation.

Astral projection is not a skill that comes to you over night. It takes a very long time to learn - and much longer to do so easily.

I would start with a combination of meditation techniques. Work on calming yourself and clearing your mind. From there, work on going into a trance state through meditation and coming out by wiggling your fingers and toes.

After that, you should be able to research other techniques too build your mind. These things make it easier to calm your mind and focus. Focus is a VERY important part of any magickal practice.

I hope this benefits you greatly. If you have any questions or would like to talk, feel free to mail me anytime.

Blessed be.
