Witch Info
By:
Hello, I am doing research for a story I am writing. If you have any information on witch cultures, history, and basic spells that would you can share that would be wonderful. I want to portray witches as accurately as possible.
Some questions I have

- can witches cast spells without speaking?
- who was the strongest witch?
- when were witches first discovered?
- Can witches be shunned by their own and if so why?
- What are some myths about witches that are untrue?

Thank you very much.

- can witches cast spells without speaking?

Some people may choose not to speak out-loud. It is up to the practitioner.

Remember, spells are not magic. Magic is affecting change in accordance with will. A spell is sort of like a ritual wish, and is a means which some people choose to use to attempt a magical result.

- who was the strongest witch?

This is not a fairy story.

- when were witches first discovered?

Witchcraft is just a name for folk magic, to simplify it. People have been practicing some form of magic, religions, and spirituality since long before history.

- Can witches be shunned by their own and if so why?

As with every belief, there are those who think their way is the best or 'only true' way. Of course there are those who shun others.

- What are some myths about witches that are untrue?

Most of them.

Can Witches Cast Spells Without Speaking?

Yes, but spells are not the entirety of witchcraft. There are many other practices that witches undertake, many of these are non-verbal. The most important thing is energy and intention, because of this many practitioners are entirely non-verbal in their practice.

Who was the Strongest Witch?

This idea is a fallacy, it's not that some witches are more powerful than others, it's the energy and intention we put into the working more than anything else that results in a successful spell or working.

When were Witches first Discovered?

Witches aren't a species, witches are human just like everyone else, but it is known that magickal workings or occultism has been found across the large majority of human history in one form or another. Many people consider witchcraft and other magickal practices to have existed for as long as humans felt the desire to control their environment (this being home life, threats, emotions, etc). Witches also aren't the only practitioners of magick, the term witch is simply a title that some people choose to take when they undertake magickal workings, there are many other titles that people use to represent different magickal paths and for a large part of human history they weren't given titles, it was simply something that some individuals did to help maintain and control their environment to suite their goals.

Can Witches be Shunned by their Own Kind?

This ties somewhat into the above answer, witches aren't a different breed or species than everyone else we are all human. Many witches go their entire lives without knowing or speaking with another practitioner, whether by design or because they don't have the means to do so. But just with all people and groups there are some witches that feel excluded from groups because of their actions or practices, some groups or covens only allow those of a particular path, age, faith, etc so I suppose sometimes shunning can occur just as it can in all social situations.

What are some Myths About Witches that are Untrue?

Basically, all of them. Many people come onto this site full of false facts, most people in the modern world are just an uninformed as they were in the past. Especially with TV, Movies and Books spreading questionable information about witchcraft and it's practitioners. Generally best to strip away the false information and go into it with an open mind to truly understand and appreciate the practice.
