Hi there. I certainly did not create "similar" items. But the material must be natural. Wood, copper, bone, stones, crystals, etc. - You can, for example, make yourself a staff from an oak tree, cut out signs on it, encrust in your staff - any stone.
Plastic in any case - not a conductor. Here it is important to understand competently what you will do, how it will affect. And it is appropriate to combine with each other these or other "additional subjects" in order to strengthen or mutually complement each other and the staff as a whole.
But! Before doing something like this, you still need to consult with someone who really understands this :)
the problem that i have is i do not have good access to a source of metal or wood. I am also homebound because i can't legally drive, and i am also pretty much broke.

"Traditionally" a wand or staff was made of wood; however there is no absolute requirement that this be so. Personally I prefer wood over metal and certainly over plastic, but if you don't have access to something else then use what you have access to.
Remember that a wand or a staff is just a tool. There is nothing inherently magical about the tool, it is merely a way of directing your energy towards your desired magical goal. You can just as easily use your finger or a twig on the ground as a wand as use anything else, and it will work just as well. Our ancestors who were Witches made do with what was at hand; they could not afford to have some fancy item lying around with which to do magic and which might come to the notice of those who wished them ill.
Also, at least in Wicca, a staff is a tool generally used by a coven rather than an individual. The tool for the individual is the wand. So you don't need to fashion yourself a staff unless you particularly want one.
