The first step would be to learn what a Jinn/Djinn is. Make sure you understand how they act, when, and why. If you want to befriend any entity it helps greatly to be able to approach them in a way that they will respect. It also acts as a cautionary learning against the potential risks. Djinn in particular are very individual beings. Some are hateful, others are helpful. Some are healing, others are tricksters.
It might be a bit of a hunt, but try to look up the classical versions of tales involving Djinn, and try to research them through the faith they come from. In this case that would involve Arabic and Islam texts and stories. it will give you some cultural context along with describing the kinds of roles they play when interacting with people.
Next would be to spend some considerable time exploring exactly why you want to call on a Djinn to become an active part of your life. You want to understand what you are asking for. You say you want a 'friend' or companion, but what kind of friend? One who will offer you advice and guidance in life? Advice towards what sorts of goals? Are those goals themselves of genuine value? How would you expect the being to help you reach those goals? The more specific your self-reflection and understanding, the more likely it will be that you will gain contact with a being that will be in alignment with yourself and your goals.
After all that would be when it is finally time to do some research on how you want to do a calling for a Djinn, using what you have learned about them, the culture around them, the practices associated with them, and what you hope to gain.
