Black dog dream

Post # 1
These are the dreams of my boyfriend. Here's some back story about what's been happening. He himself doesn't really believe in the other realm, but me being me things like to make themselves known around me. Over the last few months things have been escalating, mostly towards him, I think they want him to believe. We both have been hearing and seeing strange things around the apartment. We were in the middle of talking, I looked down and I see three scratches randomly appear on his arm. I told him about it, and he said it was him (he didn't scratch himself). I left the day after to go to my aunts'. My boyfriend told me that my dog who loves everyone and everything was growling at the closet and was in attack mode. She has never done that, to anyone or anything.

Okay to the dreams:
I = him
1. I was laying bed in my dream, fingers interlocked, on top of my torso (The basic burial pose) I felt like I was paralyzed in my dream. I heard something coming around the corner, I looked over to see what it was, expecting my dog (sounded like her claws on the hardwood floor). I see this tall black dog, walking on it's hind legs to me and my girlfriend. As it was walking towards us, I felt a very heavy feeling on my chest. I tried to get up, but was moving very slowly. My dog stands up on her hind legs and grabbed it's throat. I heard yelping, thinking it my dog I tried to get up and stop the damn thing, as I got closer to it, my dog dragged it in front the couch (bedroom like a studio; couch in front of the bed). My dog put it on the ground, and it's head was facing up, and I could see it's eyes. The eyes were a yellow and red color. The whites of a normal eye was yellow, the iris was red. When I woke up, I could still see the eyes. When I woke up, my dog was sitting where she was in my dream, looking at our closet. I called her over, and she laid in between my girlfriend and I, she normally always lays with my girlfriend. I told her she was a good girl, petting her head I fell back to sleep.

2. Falling back to sleep I was in the police station. The police were looking for my brother, and I was there for probation. My brother was actually in the police station two chairs over from me. One of the cops noticed him and said they'd be right back with handcuffs to arrest him, he fled the scene, I ran after him to convince him to go back, and we walked back to the police station. When we got back, we heard an explosion coming from the police station (sounded like a bomb). We ran in to check on people, we didn't find anyone dead or alive in the lobby (it was full before we left). We made our way upstairs, my brother found and armed himself with a gun. We continued on, until we started to hear people. I told my brother to hand the gun over, because with his warrants and he'd been shot on site. They knew me at the police station. So a cop comes down the stairs, "I found some survivors! Is there anyone else?!" I asked the cop if anyone was injured, the cop says, "you're the only two I found so far," just as that happened the officer was tackled to the ground by an invisible being. We saw his throat being ripped out and blood splatter, the cop tased something and it slowed it down, but it was too late for him. I grabbed the taser as I ran past to go down the stairs; my brother right behind me. I turned around and was swinging the taser around until it made contact. We made it to the lobby, my brother was behind me by like 3ft. There was an explosion that blew me back across the lobby, the ground below, between us, crumbled away. He was staring at me, the creature appeared behind him, I could see the outline, it was tall, grey blob looking thing, it had long arms (almost like Slenderman's arms), I shot at it, and the bullets went right through. After I shot at it, it raised it's arms towards me and I got pushed away, it said, "one more bridge to burn," then I woke up.

These were his dreams, and his uncle just passed away. If anyone could possible help me with what these dreams mean I'd appreciate it.

Well, what your boyfriend described in dream #1 sounds like the spitting image of a Black Dog - not a dog that's black in color, but a type of shapeshifting spirit claimed to have been sighted mainly in the British Isles, but in other parts of the world, too. It's also called Freybug, Barghest, Bugbear, Hellhound, Gwyllgi, Cadejo, Lobizon, Guytrash, Nagual, Grim and Cu Sith, and is also loosely similar to the Chinese Tian-Gou. Black Dogs famously stalk dark, lonely roads, preying on stray travelers, and there are many eyewitness accounts from people who swear they've come into contact with one. The Black Dog was the inspiration for A.C. Doyle's 'Hound of the Baskervilles (incidentally, is your boyfriend a fan of Sherlock Holmes or other dark mysterious things?) Mary Shelley compared the monster in 'Frankenstein' to a Black Dog by having the Doctor quote the 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' when he describes his running away from the monster after he brought it to life:

Like one that on a lonesome road/Doth walk in fear and dread/And having once turned round walks on/And turns no more his head/ Because he knows a frightful fiend/Doth close behind him tread

Both 'Frankenstein' and the 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' focus heavily on the theme of people suffering because they didn't take action for mistakes, especially when they hurt the innocent. There's a really small chance that could be reflected in his dream.

Black Dogs represent death and the spirit world, and they are also known to protect the innocent instead of harm them (one man claims he was being mugged when the criminals were frightened away by a strange dog). There are legends of people being burned at the stake as witches and their spirits transforming into Black Dogs, and sometimes Black Dogs are said to be witch's familiars (although this might be meant in a negative context since these creatures have been said to hurt people) There are people who say that if a dog is born with a black coat, it has inherent magical powers. Black is a color of death and protection. Maybe your dog is your familiar! But I'm not certain. Her presence in your boyfriend's dream could've been an actual struggle between her and a malevolent spirit, or it could've been a representation of how you and your dog make him feel safe when he feels like he's in danger. It should be of some relief to you to know that, if there really is something bad in your space, your dog is valiantly protecting you :)

The slenderman-esque figure in dream #2 could be another form of the same spirit. I've noticed that death is a common theme in all of this, maybe due to the death of his uncle if he died prior to the dreams he's having, and this is causing him a lot of stress. The police-officer who was brutally murdered might represent his uncle or his sense of security. A police station is regarded as a place of safety, and for something horrible to happen there would be symbolic of a forceful disturbance of the peace. An explosion suggests the very foundation of things being shaken/blown apart. That your boyfriend and his brother were the only survivors in the building suggests that he feels like those are the only true constants left in his life, or that those are the only people he feels like he can always count on to be around, or to feel safe around. The idea that his brother might not be immediately welcome at the station suggests that your boyfriend has something he doesn't trust or feel comfortable with about his brother, or he thinks other people might not trust of feel comfortable with his brother. The whole adventure they have together makes me think that your boyfriend is worried about his brother's (and possibly other peoples') safety. The phrase "another bridge to burn" really makes me think... what could that mean? When your boyfriend's uncle died, his connection to him was cut off. To burn a bridge is to destroy connection and access between two things. He can't communicate with his uncle anymore because his uncle is dead, and now he worries about other deaths in the future. The spirit (or his own subconscious) might've been grimly reminding him that people die, and that includes the people he knows and loves. It's possible (but then again anything is possible) that all of this is "tough love" from one of your boyfriend's guardian spirits, trying to remind him to appreciate what he has while he has it. Or all of this could simply be a manifestation of his stress.

Going with the idea that the spirits are reaching out to your boyfriend, I'm gonna go back to talking about Black Dogs and say that in a certain Celtic tradition (not sure which one) magical dogs and cats, both of which are black with a white spot, open the portal between this world and the Otherworld. Black Dogs guide the dead to the afterlife in multiple religions, and Christian churches have even employed the use of special dogs at funerals to communicate to the clergy the fate of the deceased's soul. Maybe the spirits of the Otherworld are making themselves known to your boyfriend using these dogs, and maybe, if your boyfriend is destined to learn about the Otherworld, life-after-death will be his first subject. Sorry this went so long. Blessed Be

I forgot to mention in dream #1 the dog, after my dog had him on the ground, said, "You're lucky!" in a whisper sarcastic voice. He just informed me his ancestors were Celtics. I never knew this, until now. He also claims to see "shadows" around, even outside the house, he passes it off as his mind paying tricks.

Notes: Our apartment building is in the historical district of our city. We also collect ouija boards we find tossed out. I also bless them with holy water and dragons blood.

my daughter herself has had dreams of a black dog. She has felt its presents in her room at night, to as far as feeling it laying in her bed.She has seen its shadow and heard breathing and growling. It never tries to hurt her, her brother or me, but her dad, it always goes after him. He's not the nicest of people. So I do feel like Sebara said, it could be there to protect not harm.

As far as everything else, I believe it could be stressed induced by his uncle's passing. He's holding back the pain he felt so its coming out in his subconsciousness mind while he is sleeping, hence the nightmares. My opinion anyways.

As far as something pulling him to believe, you cannot force free will. Either he wants to believe or he doesn't, his choice.
