Beginner Quesions
By:
Hello, I was wondering as a beginner just learning about Wicca, is there any special things or rituals that I should do daily? What should I do other than research and learn new spells. I am trying to put all of my focus into what I want, and I am dying to learn how to become greater at what I do. I have been wanting to for years and I am finally trying to take the next step. Basically just wondered if there’s any tips on how daily practice. Thanks! Blessed be

Wicca isn't about learning new spells and casting spells. Wicca is a whole Earth based religious system. If you want to be a Wiccan, reading up on Wicca can be a daily practice. You'll probably find a good amount of things you can do such as meditations, offerings, etc.

well i would ask yourself why you wish to be Wiccan, what you want to learn, and also write your own definition of the Rede [aka, define what 'harm' is, is it gossip, curses, eating junk food? is gossip fine when you're seeking advice? is a curse ok if someone attacked you? is eating junk food fine if you're at a party?] i would also read a good beginners guide before seeking spells to cast so you are grounded and understand the religion.

how to become better, practice, practice, practice. as boring as that sounds but if you get into a routine you'll get better. meditation will help you find your center, it can help you relax, help you visualize. while meditating you can charge, ground and shield energy, balance your chakras, astral project, connect with deity. but the only way to do these things easily is if you practice. don't feel bad if you miss a day [or week lol] but don't expect to have it down after a week either. also, don't expect to be able to sit for hours quietly, try for 30 seconds and work your way up. don't worry if you can't 'shut off your brain' that's not what meditation is [some types, yes, but most no] it's about being in the present moment. focus on your breathing, music, nature sounds, metronome, whatever, and let the thoughts flow instead of engaging them.

you might wish to encorporate the magickal with the mundane to live your path. say a blessing before a meal, prayer before bed, stir what you're cooking clockwise and charge it with energy, eat mindfully, go on a nature walk and observe the changing season, choosing your cloths with the coresponding colour in mind to charge your life with the energy [say a green shirt if you need luck on a test, or a pink shirt if you're going on a date. works with socks too if you don't want people seeing your bright orange courage colours lol] best of luck to you.

if you would like, see if you can pick up Llewellyn's 2018 Witches' Companion: An Almanac for Contemporary Living. it's a book with various articles written by various authors talking about basic life stuff, like Community Forums, Living Witchcraft, Witchcraft Essentials, and Magickal Transformations. each section has various articles on modern life as a witch, it also has a calendar at the end i use as my date book lol. if you are brand new i would go with Wicca for Life by Raymond Buckland, Bucklands Big Book of Witchcraft, or Wicca: a Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham so you can learn about the path, but the Llewellyn Almanac can help you with some small articles similar to reading a witches magazine.

You might want to start out with some of the pinned threads here in the Wicca Forum that will give you a great deal of accurate information about Wicca. Try the following:

  • What Wicca Is and Isn't
  • Main Wicca Posts
  • Ask a High Priestess

As far as books on Wicca go, two of the best for someone starting out, in my opinion, are:

"Wicca: A Year and a Day" by Timothy Roderick

"Wicca" by Thea Sabin

As has been mentioned, Wicca isn't about casting spells. Most Wiccans I know seldom if ever cast spells. Wicca is a religion with very specific beliefs and practices. Learning about what those are and beginning to follow the Esbats (full moons) and the Sabbats (eight major holidays) with some sort of ritual to acknowledge them is about the best place to actually start your practices. There are two useful books on the Sabbatswith suggestions for things you might do at home to celebrate them.

"Celebrating the Seasons of Life: Samhain to Ostara" - by Ashleen O'Gaea

"Celebrating the Seasons of Life: Beltane to Mabon" - by AshleenO'Gaea

I have been a practicing Wiccan for nearly 40 years now. While I don't teach on-line, I am always happy to answer any specific questions about Wicca that you might have, or to offer you resources to help yourself learn. So please feel free to ask anything that comes to mind.

I’m a beginner too, but from what I’ve gathered you should meditate daily so it can be easier to do stuff I think.

Meditation is useful; it is a practice that I use frequently. However, it is not a required part of Wicca and not all Wiccans use meditation in their spiritual practices.

also just to add to what the others have said, you must remember that Wicca does not equal Witchcraft. Wicca is a religion; Witchcraft is a practice. The often go hand in hand, but they are not synonymous to each other. A lot of people are misinformed when it comes to Wicca and Witchcraft, mainly due to the influence of media(I once had an english teacher that called the witches in Macbeth Wiccans), you can be any religion or have no religion and still practice witchcraft. If you want to follow the Wiccan path, really research into it and think about why you're choosing it and what makes it special to you.

Best wishes,

Skoll
