It has been found that Mindfulness Meditation can be an effective tool in helping people with many different forms of mental illness including anxiety, panic disorder, and depression amongst others. A couple of references that you might find useful are:

" The Meaning of Mindfulness " by Thich Nhat Hanh

And these websites:

https://positivepsychologyprogram.com/mindfulness-exercises-techniques-activities/

http://youth.anxietybc.com/mindfulness-exercises

- this last is specifically about using mindfulness meditation to help deal with anxiety.

Mindfulness meditation can be used alone, but in your case it should be used in conjunction with the treatment you are already receiving. Talk to your doctor about it as well. There is sound scientific evidence that such meditation may be helpful to a lot of people and it is well-accepted in the mental health community.
