Indeed. I found this out the hard way, with my amethyst. I personally tend to use the sun a lot when charging crystals, since it's more convenient for me. I found the more exposure to the sun the amethyst had the more the purple hue to it faded.

Excellent overview for anyone interested in learning more about crystals and gems. I have recently started using crystal grids in my daily routine. Great post.

I find wearing a shard of obsidian around your neck (or having a shard in your pocket or in another piece of jewellery) is good for protection. Obsidian protects against psychic attacks and it also neutralises negative energies in the area. I always have a shard with me or near me.

Also, does anyone know if there is any magical use for river stones? I’m not fussed if there isn’t, I’m just curious.

If they are the flat, smooth stones you could use them to make runes, mark the boundaries of a ritual circle, or even use them as a means to connect to the river and the water element its connected to. You could also polish them and use them as worry stones (smooth stones with a small indent that are used to help relieve anxiety).

Ritual circles was what I was thinking but I wasn’t sure, so that’s good to know. Thank you.

From the little I know about the topic of crystals in general, I think that river stones can be a useful part of your altar(for the part of the pentagram that's supposed to represent water), for fairy magick, and magick relating to the element of water.
