When I used to use wands, I would go into the woods with a ruler and find stcks that were kinda straight, about as long as the ruler, and sturdy. Then I would de-bark them, and enchant them with a simple charm from one of my old books. That's just me though.

Staffs and wands are both used for moving energy. The wood type depends on what kind of magick you want to practice. I would get a few books or take a good look online to find out the properties of different woods to find one to suite your purpose.

Personally I use ebony wood (highly magical) and lignum vitae (for healing).

Some of you are making me laugh (sonic screwdriver) thank you
But I personally find a wooden staff fashioned from a first growth branch from a nut tree and I have only the marks of the various gods that I have invoked as well as protection signs on it

Blessed be

Often we do not use new growth from any tree, not before asking permission and leaving an offering. The most common type of wood used is fallen, non rotten wood that is gathered with no harm to the tree.

Also not all staffs and wands must be made from the tree that produces nuts (I am not saying that you can't), there are huge numbers of other trees that can be used, each with different magickal properties. You may be drawn to a particular tree species who's wood you than then use for wands and staffs.

So, as long as the material is natural, will it work for a wand. For some reason, I kinda wanted to use an Ice axe to direct my energy. I love climbing so I feel connected to it. Would this work, or would an alternative item be better?
