Demon, you don't think religion is scary? Read and study the reports coming from Syria; Iraq; Afghanistan; and many countries in Africa! To say nothing about Israel and Palestine!

What is scary to me is that people believe we cannot be good individuals without religion. That we are born wihthout the capacity to be loving, caring, beings. That we need fear to keep us in place!

If you have to be scared or bribed into being a good individual, you are not a good individual anyway.

Parents teach morals, and they need not be from the bible. The first 5 of the ten commandments are unnecessary. Only a completely brain-dead person, or insane person, would honestly think murdering someone is a good this....I do not think we needed religion in this respect...or at least we have moved past it.

I actually believe children develop empathy at an early age, believe, being a word for accepting various pieces of psychological evidence.

It also irritates me when people pick and choose from the bible, you either follow it, or you follow your own brand. If you can start picking and choosing what you like and what you don't like, then surely you must see that religion is no for you.

Stone a woman to death if she is raped and refuses to marry her attacker, homosexuality is an abomination, stoned to death for blasphemy, kill witches (of the healing type- i.e. midwives etc.), in mulim beliefs; under Sharia law, anyone who turns away from Islam is to be killed.....

If you dislike those beliefs you have to understand that the religion a originally conceived and practiced is not for you and it is my opinion, that all the Abrahamic religions are an outdated mode of conduct and cannot, and should not, be used for moral guidance.

Everything that we do in our lives are things that we have been taught by others or through personal experience. We are not born with passion, empathy, forgiveness, love, hate, cheating or any other emotion, quality or attribute - whether good or bad. It all comes from somewhere else - not from within.

I disagree. Babies are bor with all the capability for sensing and displaying emotions, and do.

Babies show distress, which is an emotion. Why not Love?

I do not have the time to cite studies, but I can tell you, he majority of reasearch seems to suggest babies are born with emotion and respond to the emotions of others- albeit in a limited way.
