Yes, you did try to help. Anyways if you do want the aid of a deity, then I suggest you leave an offering. The offering depends on what god or goddess you reques help from.

I do not believe in any God, but I would never descry or condemn anybody's belief. But I think that anybody who states catagorically " the one and only" is a bit suspect!

Okay, so I'm just going to ignore the whole "one and only" argument, my apologies, but I would like to just respond to the original post. Anyways... As mentioned before, magick itself isn't exactly a religion. It the practice of learning to manipulate the energies within yourself and your environment. If you are Pagan, or just believe in some sort of idea of God, then praying to a deity is a good idea. But it all depends on your path and what you believe in. You can try meditating to see if a form of God will appear to you, you can talk to whatever form(s) of God you already believe in or talk to, or you can just talk to God as a whole. I am Wiccan and am not menacing to sound biased or pushy about my beliefs but, before I became Wiccan, I believed God to be this all encompassing being. Yes, I, technically, believe in one god, but I also believe that all gods are God and that God has many faces and forms. I believe that God is a little bit of everything and is both masculine and feminine. Personally, I feel I connect more to or relate more to the feminine side, but that's just how I am. When I pray, I just sit on my bed, look at a corner of the cieling or a wall (I'm not sure why I just do) and talk. I talk to God as if She was just standing there and listening to me patiently. There have been a few times where She talked to me, too, but mostly She just listens, I think. I find it rather comforting and I hope you can find the same kind of comfort when talking to God. It doesn't really matter exactly how you pray, just be respectful and show thanks now and again. Like I said, you can talk to God as a whole or talk to a specific form of God you're comfortable with. If you don't feel comfortable talking to God, you may want to ask yourself why. Also, as others have mentioned, it's not a bad idea to show or give offerings to God. That is just one of many ways to show thanks. I hope this has helped some.

I pray to those I feel a personal connection with. My opinion outs that there are so many different paths, not one is right or wrong, it's what feels right to each individual. Acceptance, tolerance and harmony are key.
