The thing to remember about Ouija boards is they are a tool. People who use them wrong tend to get hurt and that's how it got its bad reputation. If more people injured themself with stoves we would all fear them as powerful forces of evil. Many cultures throughout history have different methods to speak with spirits. The Ouija Board [as mentioned] was invented in the early 20th century. Most of the stories of hauntings is the mind working overtime. Sometimes the power of suggestion is more powerful than actually cursing someone. Your fears will build negative energy and eventually curse yourself.

Some old charms people believe keep evil spirits away are mirrors and tassels [strings hanging off scarves, bags or skirts] tassels are believed to confuse evil spirits and mirrors reflect negative energy. Mirrors can also be used as portals, so place a little garlic on any mirrors in your home will close the portal. Salt can do the same thing if you don't want the smell. Speaking of, look into incense and herbs that cleanse and/or protect. Burn them to cleanse an area. Sage for example. Dragons Blood works too.

Most use sage smudge I just wasn't sure if you could find some. Incense is easier to get for most people.

Okay, let me just say, I hate it when people are under any kind of negative assault and people don't just help because it is within their sphere of ability to do so. Removing your negative ailment for a price is like saying, "I can fix that nasty gushing hole in your neck that is causing you to lay on the sidewalk and bleed to death, but I need a small fortune before I do".
If you know anyone, personally, that can help with a spell, or you do them yourself, I suggest the Rune Sighel and maybe Gyfu. Sighel can be used as a grand counter to all dark forces, and Gyfu is good at removing Karmic debts or curses. Also Algiz for protection is a good idea. Just some ideas from runic.
There are probably similar answers in other forms of magick.

If your ex does a lot of spells, I'd recommend you buy a talisman and wear it for protection. A simple Star of David will do the trick, and for now you can just draw one on paper and keep it with you. Put six circles around it, one between each spoke in the star. it will keep you safe.

As to those dissing the ouija boards, if they have the right symbols on them and those with faith may activate them - tradition or not. All traditions started somewhere, even new ones like the ouija.
