I think this is a question that is between you and your God. You might talk to your minister about it if you have serious doubts. Or you can pray to your God and ask him if it is OK for you to practice magic.

Many of us here on this site are not Christian and our answers will come from a very different viewpoint from yours as we do not answer to your God but to our own.

There are some groups who are wiccan oriented, I use that term because I don't think they are Wiccan, who still acknowledge the christian god and believe that the bible was writen by man. They believe themselves to be a part of the divine and therefore have the divine right to tap into the energy of God and use it in good works.

I would think the Christian Wiccans may be able to lend you some thoughts on the matter- try mailing the priest or priestess I am sure they would not mind.

If you look at the Christian religion, the symbology of Jesus being the son of God (added later by the Romans) is actually a combination of various older pagan beliefs. The dying sun god archetype is found everywhere- the sun sets in the west at night (dies) and is reborn each morning.

As has been said, a priest performs magick every time he blesses the wine and bread. As did Jesus, it is an invocation of a divine being into a host which is then consumed by the congreagation.

Now you must ask yourself, is a priest higher, or more special than you, or is he just a normal human being. Given the history of the church and the various scandals which are often brushed under the carpet, I hope you will come to the conclusion that you have just as much right as them to work with your god in a closer, intimate way.

This is a personal decision, and is a very personal opinion, no one can tell you what God thinks, absolutely no one. You ust need to work out for yourself.

I struggled at first to move away from christian backgrounds, I then became very cynical, and more or less athiest. I realised that if I was to believe in the bible and in the notion of hell I was already going there anyway, so why not go out with trying all I could.....I hope your decision is made in healthier fashion.

Assuming you are speaking of the Christian God, technically no. It is said in the Bible that witchcraft is evil. Though, Krishna once said that when you honour one god, you honour all of them. He also said that god is within us all. If you are okay with it, I am sure any deity you honour will be as well.

Ancestor, you are mistaking the Christian beliefs of the Old Testament (Judaism) with the New testament of Christian beliefs. There is nothing in Christianity that condemns witchcraft but only that any magic is by priests, not by the Laity.
In any case, in the original Hebrew, the condemnation is of "poisoners", not witches! The word witches did not exist in Biblical times. It is from an old Celtic word, wiccacreft.

Interesting, Brysing. I''ve personally never read the New Testament, only the old and I can picture the word witchcraft, evil, and sin in the part of the sins. But oh well. Perhaps in old age I've forgotten it as it has been a couple years since I've read it.

Agree with brysing.
but yiu need to define what is magic.
To pray to a god it doesnt matter wich one waiting that the god helps you in any whay, is magic. But the clasification of what is magic changes constantly, and its depends of the person you ar asking for a definition of it: a catholic priest will have a diferent opinion of magic than a protestant pastor ( pastors sat that catholics make magick with all those rituals, they've got).

Second time I have posted this today...

I always go by Aleister Crowley's definition of magick, "Magick is the Science and art of creating change in conformity with ones will".

One's will is one's true nature, if you are meant to be a soldier, enlisting yourself in the army is just as much an act of magick as is evoking a spirit of mars to charge a talisman to aid you in battle.

One's lesser will is merely a conscious action, therefore me typing is magick, just as me performing a solar adoration is magick.

I believe Brysing's definition is "The knowledge of the few, for the benefit of the many." I agree with that one too.
