How do you store rain water?... I had collected some rain water last time we had rainfall. Then I put it into a glass jar in a cool dry place. When it was a full moon I let it set out to charged it. So then I put the jar in a dark sachet, it had been sitting the for a couple weeks till I needed it. Only thing was, was that when I opened it, it had gunky stuff in the bottom of the water. It didn't have a funky smell or anything but seemed odd.
Does it go bad after a while? ... I understand it's water, I just don't understand why it would do that especially when it was in a glass jar. It was pure rain water, it didn't drip off anything into the glass jar.

Yes,freezing would be good.
However, rain water may not be as "pure" as you think it is.It collects a lot of pollution from the air; such as acid rain from industry.
The purist water would be from a spring.
i agree with everything above. why the water got dirty was either the jar wasn't clean, or the water wasn't. something my grandmother use to do when my cousins, sister, and i were kids to stop us from eating ice-sickles was to melt one to show that clear looking ice-sickle was full of grime from the roof we couldn't see. rainwater's the same. [also, snow normally starts to form on dirt particles in the air, so there you go] point is, there's tiny things inside the water you can't see with the naked eye which can account for the grime that appeared.
freezing would work best, but be careful what container you use, water expands when it's frozen, so glass would most likely break. go for a plastic freezer bag, or a tupperware container if possible. when you thaw it out and it's water again, pour it into your jar.
Ahhh I didn't think of boiling it, that's a good idea. As to freezing it I know to not fill the container all the way. =) Now I just have to wait till fall for rain, if we're lucky to get it that early lol.
