Wood is are most environmentally friendly materials. Infinitely renewable, locks away carbon and biodegradable. The problem is how it is done not that it is at all. For the ill informed.

1. Less than 4% of the worlds oxygen comes from green trees and grasses over 80% comes from marine algae but there is no bandwagon for save the seaweed so it is dieing faster than the rain forest.

2. Biodiversity in a managed woodland / forest is greater with many more time the insect life and small mammals than unmanaged. A choked forest canopy will leave the forest floor a wasteland with very few plants able to establish.

The biggest ecological disaster this planet ever faced was 400 million years when green plants spewed millions of tons of oxygen into the carbon dioxide and sulfur rich atmosphere killing countless organisms as this corrosive gas enveloped the globe... Lucky for us!

Last point you should really think about. When people say save the earth what they really mean is don't let it change. We will never kill the earth no matter what we do. We can however make it unfit for "human" life that's what it is really about is keeping are happy little blue marble spinning in the void with us scurrying about on its surface. So when people say save the planet or heal the world it is always tinged with more than a little selfishness.

We need trees and we need what they give if we take them we need to replace them. I am for and against this question.

Though I hate that man has control, forest thinning is necessary, as a whole mountain side burned here 2 years ago, and the damage is still affecting wildlife. Not enough food has grown back, so animals are coming down into town and through the washbed right behind this apartment complex. Coyotes, desert pigs, etc. are scrounging for food. Then there is the rain causing mudslides. Though I hate the idea, it must be done.. Blessings...

I have mentioned in a couple of posts about the Tower in the Tarot trumps. That destruction is also a way of clearing out the old to make room for the new. But it is done so responsibly. I am all for managing our environment. After all, this is the only home we have and we need to take care of it. Overmanaging is just as harmful as undermanaging.
