Totem animals?

Merry meet! I'm Wiccan but still incorporate Native American totem animals into my beliefs, I've been trying to use dream casting to find mine but with little/no success. Any advice? :)

Totem - "A totem is a being, object, or symbol representing an animal or plant that serves as an emblem of a group of people, such as a family, clan, group, lineage, or tribe, reminding them of their ancestry (or mythic past). In kinship and descent, if the apical ancestor of a clan is nonhuman, it is called a totem. Normally this belief is accompanied by a totemic myth. They have been around for many years"

Spirit Animal/Power Animal - "Power animal(s) represent a person's connection to all life, their qualities of character, and their power. They are the helping or ministering spirit or familiar which empowers individuals and is essential for success in any venture undertaken."

So a Totem Animal is to the tribe what a Spirit/Power Animal is to the individual. An individual, unless they were part of a larger tribe with a totem would not personally have a totem. Semantics I know, but it is useful to get the terminology correct.

Try meditation? Or is that the similar to dream casting? I've never done the latter, as far as I know...

I summoned totem animals by meditation...although the way I found the totem animal for my family was by keeping my eyes open and seeing which animal was suddenly everywhere. (e.g. newspapers, in the wild, on the internet...etc)
