I think it is based on experience.

You don't have to be a religion to practice magick. God(s) and Goddess(es) helps you in what your doing and you can ask for extra energy from them or the universe.

Magick is not a religion. It is an art used in multiple ones.

Now what do you know! The fact that you are here asking for proof indicates that you are ready to believe without proof.

You should try using the scientific method. The first spell i tried was a rain spell and it worked. In order to get get over the skeptiecism ir used it many more times( which by the way was not good for the environment). Point is magick does work however its not like any hollywood movies and proof lies within personal experience.well thats my two cents anyways.

What do you accept as hard evidence?

Thinking about it, it's a very hard thing to prove and thus it makes the question valid.

Those that know me, personally, can well see me as the living proof of magic working. I have everything I need and want for nothing; all brought about by magic. I've written about how anyone can do it, but don't depend on sales of that book to survive. It was an incidental and a willingness to demonstrate that anyone can become a spell-caster.

Yet still the question remains, how to prove it? I once was asked to help someone who was accused of fraud. I knew he was innocent, but he had turned to me as a last resort because he couldn't actually prove that he was an honest man. There are similarities.

How do you prove you are honest? If you had to provide evidence to prove you were an honest person, how would you do it? What evidence could you produce to demonstrate your honesty?

What then trying to prove magic?

Did the spell-caster make it happen? Or was it going to happen anyway?

Only the mage knows.

The thoughts in your mind can be split. An experiment was done in the Vatican where large amount of people were praying and the scientist detected a lot of electromagnetic energy. Scientist themselves agree that telepathically we can communicate and sense things. Which all of you know would be considered "sixth sense". Im a science head myself so I laugh and look down on others who say "I can transform into a vampire and a werewolf" and foolishness such as that. But there is a level of energy that we ourselves, human kinds have not developed yet. Brain limitation, it can be our best friend or our worst nightmare.
