Curing a Cold
By:
I'm sick with a cold, and my nose is running and I'm coughing. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of a cold fast, using herbs, techniques, or spells? But I need an easy, low-energy spell so I don't make my self feel worse due to drained energy. I want to get better as soon as I can. Thank You!

Some herbs that are good that I have heard of are Rose hips. They are loaded with Vitamin C. Honey (raw) is great for sore throats. Warm soup works wonders. I know Rosemary is great for colds as well, if you brew it into a tea. There is also eucalyptus or menthol rub for a stuffy nose. Anoyther good thing for a cold is peppermint. It can really soothe a sore throat.

Raw garlic is antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial, so no matter what your illness, it is wonderfully healing. I like to toss 2 cloves into a serving a chicken broth/stock for my daughter, simmer it covered until the cloves are soft, and then have her eat the cloves and drink the broth. For myself, I like raw garlic and can tolerate the heat, and eat it with bread and butter. 2 medium cloves per day is the minimum, eat more at the risk of reeking of it! But you will recover quickly. =)

For immediate relief, nothing beats a mug of hot tea with 2 tablespoons of apple cidar vinegar, sweetened with honey (I prefer uncooked). For ACV, Heinz works, but Braggs is best. Breathe in the steam, sip it, and feel better. Its an acquired taste for sure, but most get used to it after the first few sips. Strong flavored teas are best (I wouldn't use it in green or white tea). If you really can't stand the taste, added it to hot apple cidar. The key is it should be drank hot to be effective for cold/flu.

Also up your vitamin c intake. Easiest way to do this is by eating more fruit and drinking more juice.

Think yourself well. Don't dwell on being sick. Don't feel sorry for yourself. Focusing on being sick will make it worse. Get your mind off of it. Meditate and visualize doing everything you normally do without being ill. Before you go to sleep at night, tell yourself you will feel better tomorrow (or go the extra mile and convince yourself you'll be 100% well). Don't be discouraged that it doesn't happen as you planned. It's all about using your mind to help your body heal, not "bibity bobity boo", POOF, you're well.

Fantastic post Rav3n !

There are many remedies that you may find affective for easing down a cold and curing it. These are herbal remedies for cold relief. White told you a few great recommendations, which are very affective. You can of course find some more herbal remedies, it's very easy as Hex said :)

What I like to do when I have a cold is to make a cup of hot tea my preference is always green or jasmine. Then what i do is to get into it some decent amount of sugar (not a necessity or anything) and lastly add equal portions of honey and lemon juice until it has a minty taste. Drink and be well.
Rest alot, and to wear warm clothes.
You can drink tea and adding which obtains these leaves : dandelion, clover, or yarrow.
You can also add a peppermint into the mixture.

I can recommend you few herbs which are affective for your situation according to my experience with cold relief and things I did in several cases..

The herb Echinacea purpurea is one of the best known and widely available herbal cold treatments. I recommend mixing 15 to 20 drops of an echinacea tincture with warm water four or five times a day (or as directed on the bottle).
From my person experience and family traditions, goldenseal is a good herb as well. You can take a small dose of it just as you do with Echinacea .
I strongly recommend Ginseng. Although this Asian herb is taken mainly to boost energy, stamina, and overall health, researchers have begun to examine its efficacy in fighting the common cold.
Taking ginseng every day reduces the severity and duration of cold symptoms, and appeared to prevent colds as well.

But always remember in addition to everything green tea, snazzy tissues, and toasty socks will make you feel better, even if they can't cure your cold or fight the flu =).

hot honey and lemon always works. you could also drink ginger tea if your stomachs upset.

sea salt and hot water, pour it into a bowl, place your head over it and throw a towel of your head and the bowl trapping the steam inside. this will loosen phlegm and help you breath. also helps with the pores lol. this one is a pain, but it works.

rest is the best for the cold of course, so take some lavender tea and go to sleep. and soup. hot liquids help.

A cold will run its course and there really isn't anything you can treat it with that will make that any different.

About all you can do is to treat the symptoms of the cold (whether with herbs or western medicine), drink plenty of fluids and get plenty of rest.

There are no spells that will make a cold go away...although there are certainly times I wish that weren't the case.

Thank you. =) Ah Echinacea! Good one to add.

Since Echinacea is an immune system strengthener it works indirectly by promoting your body's natural defense system to take care of illness. However, my uncle always said to begin taking it at the very first sign of illness and continue throughout the illness for best results. As soon as I or anyone in my family begins to feel "blah" and have the idea they're getting sick, I grab the bottle of echinacea. I use a glycerin base (not alcohol) one for my daughter by the company "Herbs for Kids". I add it to apple juice for my daughter and the taste is not effected very much and she actually likes it. I was unfortunate and grew up having to take the nasty alcohol based ones. I like the glycerin one too now =)
