As Iis was saying, not everyone feels the same way about curses and hexes. A lot of other practices use them quite frequently. Not all practice have the same concepts of karma, or that your bad deeds will return upon you, etc.

As was said, we are not all Wiccans. Goodness, no! I despise being called Wiccan. Although some Wiccans like Lark are awesome and give Wicca a good name, there are many many more ignorant ones that make magick practioners seem ridiculous.

First of all the "Wiccan Rede" was a poem that can't be traced before 1975! Wicca however has been around for about 50 years. So for 20ish years there was no "rede". Many Wiccans do not uphold the rede due to it's origin as a poem published in Green Eggs magazine and then adopted by the religion and altered a few years later to be what you see today. Other Wiccans interpret it as they desire. And still more perceive it as advice, not "rules". Some go so far as to bring a twisted version of karma into it (law of three)...sort of like the Christian hell scare.

Unlike the claims, Wicca is not an "old religion". In fact, it is extremely new and most of the "facts" it was based off of concerning the true old ways have been proven false.

I have nothing against the religion itself. I feel Wicca has helped shed light and create more acceptance for magick practioners. But I disagree with many of its followers and I despise that everyone thinks if you're a pagan, you're automatically "Wiccan". Urgh...

You can read more about the rede history here

To be honest, I don't curse or hex, but sometimes I go into violence without magick when I hate somepony. But 75% of the time I end it peacefully. Example of violence: Stare. Never cursed or put a hex on anypony. Example of peace: "Blah blah blah, blah blah blah let's just end it, and nothing goes wrong, okay, Bonbon?" Bonbon: "Okay." A speech always works. And we all lived happily ever after, the end. Now, curses and hexes are used for revenge. Not necessarily bad, but just a little violent...Okay, a bit more violent. My Point: Those who do curses and hexes are just rollin' the way they roll, in a way...I can't explain any longer.

I could care less if someone curses or hexes people. I just prefer to do things in a peaceful manner. It seems like the better way, but that's just me. Magick is diverse and no two people think or do the same things. Which kinda makes us like snowflakes. :)

not all Wiccan's are good, though i feel since it's against the reed i'd say not all Witches are good, which is true. i'd love to learn more about curses and hexes, but it's tough to find good books, especially when people already look at you as a monster as you hold 'the green witch' or 'wicca for life' in the checkout line at the local book store. i feel those who post on the forums 'i want a hex to harm my ex' is new and doesn't really grasp things. same goes for demon summoning. both those things i feel shouldn't be done until 2-3 years of study. [and not just, i read one book 3 years ago so i've studied for 3 years] this religion has a lot of grey to it, and it all comes down to you. if you feel it's right then do it. if you're 100% Wiccan and do whatever Gardner or Buckland say, then you would avoid all 'black' or 'grey' magic. you wouldn't curse/hex people, but most of us aren't like that. i've met many MANY Wiccans/Pagans and in that time, only met 2 who refuse to curse/hex people. one doesn't believe in magic and the other feels it goes against the reed.

I agree whiteraven i hate that when people just naturally label you as a wiccan or pagan. personified also has a good point. There are people on here that are still young not having any experience or concept of what cursing hexing or magics that are considered "dark" really are. They give it a bad name for most are just dabblers waiting to get burned by their own inexperience. Not everyone follows the three fold law i dont. Liliths blessings, cielo

Many people let anger, hate, resentment and envy control their lives. So they want to hurt others. It is as simple as that. What they don't understand is that these emotions eat at their very being and will cause them all kind of problems now or latter in life. Usually in the form of sickness and disease.

If the diversity of magic is beautiful, why try to force your peaceful view on another? ;)

Personally I see no use for more offensive magical practice. It is typically rash, immature, and short-sighted - it possesses no view of the longterm, and only results in a reciprocal cycle of petty vengeance.

Self defense? Sure. Vengeance? Foolish.
