Many people just starting out have this instinctive need or desire to be taught by someone else. I think that in the beginning, although it is helpful to have someone quide you, I personally don't think you absolutely need a teacher or mentor.

Nowadays there is so much information on the internet, and libraries of knowledge that, if it weren't for the internet, many of them would not be available to the average practitioner. I suggest buying or downloading several books on meditation, visualization, and a book that gives you a basic understanding of magic.

The book Earth, Air, Fire & Water by Scott Cunningham was helpful for me, I took notes and still brush through it on occasion. Remember that not everything will be given to you, and to truly learn you will have to do some hard work yourself. Especially when it comes to attaining knowledge on specific areas of magick - that is something that should be gained through personal experience.
