I agree with Ben you could have shortened it a bit but it is still very useful if a bit long-winded.

You forgot Spirit. Obviously you know nothing. I don't mean to be rude, but it's simple, common knowlegde that there are five Elements. Not four. I'm not trying to sound like a know-it-all, but some things I do know and I will defend that. It is Spirit, Air, Earth, Fire and Water. Spirit is also called Aether.

Traditionally Spirit isn't an element. Traditionally, spirit is what binds the elements together and not, in fact, and element itself.

Not all Wiccans include Spirit in their Elemental Correspondences. And when they do it is less as an Element and more, as was previously said, something which binds the Elements together. Outside of Wicca the idea of Spirit as a fifth Element is even less common.

The idea of the four Elements traces back to the writings of the Greeks some 2500 years ago. There is an excellent article on this at http://web.eecs.utk.edu/~mclennan/BA/AGEDE/Intro.html which explains how the Greeks approached the concept.

I have many friends that are pagan. I did an article on my blog called The Four Elements. I think this is such and interesting subject in life. I love how you included the cardinal directions in your post. Also, it's very thorough. Would you mind checking mine out. I had to give pagans their props. http://heatherbergscontroversy.blogspot.com/2012/07/the-four-elements-paganism-christianity.html
