Very true LadyB, my family always emphasized as I grew up "don't say something you don't want to come true". I was told "what you say or think can happen". I am very careful with the words "I wish" or "I want" and make sure what comes after is what I truly wish/want. I try to avoid all permanent statements such as "I never want to see you again" as some may blurt out when they're angry. I try to busy myself when worried, to prevent myself from dwelling on the bad possibilities.

Communication is an important aspect of how our minds work and how our emotions are expressed. So of course, the way words are used has an effect on our magick, whether spoken or thought.

The use of words can be quite affecting to the sense of the caster and place an extra esoteric feeling which can aid with spell effectiveness. Many spirits also like the old languages, it is quite flattering to them that you are speaking with a dead language that honors the ancient spirits. In kabbalistic tradition it is the vibrations chanted through the air and reaching different tones that create an energy.
Yes a person can do ritual with no sound utterance, but it is not as strong in building energy. It also leaves one to seclude themselves making the mind distracted and unable to focus and concentrate well.

If I remember correctly, in Egyptian mythology, after Ra created himself it says that there was nothing for him to stand on and so he etched a spell upon his heart and spoke one word and created a step.
